Driving today and Hessy's Engine just died >_<
No lights on dash - turned key - nothing :( Dead Dash :o

Hazards worked OK :up: Got out the SOS "Tow me home" card and was about to settle on the roundabout at 5pm amidst business traffic and await assistance but tried just one more time and i heard a click in the fuse area - and the dash lights got lit again.

Hey presto - she started and we got her home, where she died again - and then another click in the fuse area and she started again.

So any ideas - 8149.27 Ducato 2.5TD 1992 Engine - turn the keys and she shows all lights on dash to include the glovebox light. When she stops during driving - the dash lights are off (No battery / oil light / handbrake light / background lights) or the glovebox light.

Is the click in this fuse area a relay? Do they fail? Is there any way to check?

Could it simply be a bad earth? Any help grately received?

Wires from the key switch? Bad earth behind the battery? Loose wire at the junction box over the battery?

Had this on a 92 Landcover - crud inside starter switch.

First Principles - checked the Battery connections :up:
Second - the fuses :up:
Third - all Earth points in and around cab🆙

Dunnno yet - but anyway

Yip Lads - - think we got it today - Before we went over the water i inspected the starter switch connection into the loom and there was corrosion - so i obviously cleaned it off >_<

There was furhter corrosion since april - so i disconnected it from the switch connection unit and hardwired it to the side. Tried her a few times and no intermittant issues

Im fairly sure this is carbon build up in the key switch after years of contacts opening and closing closing. If you spray the key switch out with contact cleaner it should sort it out.
