Top 5 questions from a noob

Hi All,
I'm new to the forum so I've had a read through the previous posts in this section before I start asking questions. Here goes... :-)
I became the proud owner of a 1992 CI Wilk Aventura 565 in May (The kids have named it Wilko). We've done a few weekends away and then a 10 day 1000km "Getting to know you" trip around the South West of Ireland.

SUBMERSIBLE PUMPS: Ours moves around freely and sometimes 'clunks' when driving. Should it be secured to the bottom of the water tank? I also found a split washer in the tank (the pump is working OK regardless). There's a fair bit of fine silt in the bottom of the tanks. Other than emptying the tank and manually removing it - is there a smart way of doing this?

KEYS:The van is a 92. I have been to about 8 or 9 key cutters to get a copy of the main cabin/water/waste key made and no luck - any tips?

SOUND INSULATION: The 2.5 Ducato Diesel engine is v noisy. I'm thinking of adding acoustic insulation panels inside the engine bay and a hoodliner. Anyone know where I can get this?

DOOR SEALS: The Rubber Door seal is perishing. Any tips on replacing this?

EXTERIOR PAINT: Not essential but I'd like to give the old van a lick of paint. Cab is steel, Body is Aluminium, some fibre glass/plastic. I want to do it myself and have heard of using rustoleum with a gloss mini roller. Has anyone else tried this?
Thanks All
Danny :-)

Hi Danny,

Welcome to the craic,

Re Submersible pump.
Most subs I have seen have just dangled in the tank, mainly because they take water in at the bottom and exit through the top, maybe wrap the pump in some sponge to cushion the thud and also act as a rough filter,
The silt you found in the bottom of the tank can be removed manually or getting a 1" pipe and start to symphon the water out, when the flow gets going use the pipe like a vacuum hose and that should work,
But easier to do it manually,

Keys,
Try collerans locksmiths, address is Small crane, sea road, galway 091 581857. They are in the locksmith business donkeys years and may have a few older keys lying around, if they cannot cut the keys for you he may have advise on where to try,

I cannot help with the other questions but no doubt you will get a few suggestions,

Enjoy Wilko

Hi Danny

Cant answer all points but

Re dirt in the tank
Hopefully you have a hole in the top of the tank big enough to get your hand in. I empty the tank and then using a otherwise unused car sponge wipe out seems to get good results.

Keys
Does the key have a number of any sort printed on it. Had a similar problem caravan keys often not stocked by key cutters if so you could try one of the dealers who support this site or someone like
this guy who advertises on E-Bay he came up with the goods for me

Insulation
Stacks and stacks on e bay

The silt could be a build up of limescale, when I got my knaus 3 years ago (2008 van) it had what appeared to be sand in the bottom of the tank, I used a couple of those kettle de scaler things and rinsed it out nothing since.

Have you tried a motor factors or breaker yard for the door rubbers.

Hi, thanks all for the advice. Definitely a few leads to follow up there.
