Hi all anyone who has been to Cobh will agree that this is a fantastic location for camper vans however like Donegal some weeks ago someone was seen dumping their toilet into the sea despite a toilet in the town nearby where they could dump it for 20c. I believe that some of the locals are starting to object to the aires because of this and who could blame them. I go to Cobh on a regular basis and should I see someone doing this I will photograph them, take their reg and report them to the guards. So BE WARNED.

Well said Joe, I'm 100% in agreement with you. I used the excellent facilities in Cobh for the first time last Saturday and it won't be the last. Excellent fish and chips at this chipper unfortunatly I've forgotten the name.

I don't for one minute doubt what you are saying. But I would like Colin McCarthy's view on this if I may. Especially the bit about locals "starting to object", I was under the opinion it was all roses and nice in Cobh.

I was in cobh last weekend and had no bother,
Like I said on a previous thread regarding locals objecting I'd question the info,
If it Was it an auld codger half full of Guinness or biddy goody goody two shoes I'd take it with a pinch of salt,

Hopefully if it did happen (some idiot emptied his cassette) it was an isolated case and does not happen again,

We were in Cobb last week and saw nothing untoward in the behaviour of motorhomes except for one van that gives the impression it is parked there as it appeared to be unoccupied at night. There was a car stopped beside it one evening for an hour and someone did a bit of hoking in a locker and then departed.

I did have a conversation with a French motorhomer who asked about water and waste disposal. I was not sure of the location of any toilets to empty at. There were four in his van so it was a daily problem for him. The best I could do for him was to direct him to Ardmore were I had called in and filled and emptied for a few euros on my way to Cobh.

Whilst the Aire is much appreciated by all, I feel that the council need to be more on the ball. Despite this being the second or third year of operation they have not provided any bins other than the usual litter bins for waste. And how easy would it be for them to place a sign indicating the location of a toilet and fresh water. I am aware that they plan to fit out the Aire with facilities at some point but surely they are aware of the needs of the visitors they are encouraging to visit and whilst they are in no way to blame for the stupidity and ignorance of one or two van owners they could easily provide temporary solutions.

I had made a point of calling at the tourist offices at Cobh and Dungarvan and praising the attitude of the council to parking at Cobh and lookout point, if I had been aware of this issue I would have raised it. A job for the Motorhome association perhaps?

Locals have objected to parallel parking using up space for others and also the leaking of grey water. Local Bye-laws are on the way ye address the former and prosecution under The Litter Pollution Act will address the latter are also any dumping of cassette contents into the sea. The provision of services was due for this year but it looks like it will now be 2016 before we see them.

Davy,

if the services are not in place before your next visit you could empty and refill in Middleton, (about 5 miles...ish over the road)
25C to get into the super loo to empty the cassette, grey water gully marked in car park and a fresh water tap (press in type) beside the super, no charge for fresh water,

Hope this helps somebody else that may be in that neck of the woods before the services are in cobh

Thanks for that mad max, we had called into Ardmore simply to see the site, we met the owner and took the opportunity to fill and empty for a few euro, so I knew what was available especially since we planned a couple of nights at Cobh were I knew facilities are not yet in place.

We did drive into the car park at Middleton around mid day, but it was bunged with cars, again I was just adding to my knowledge bank, we did call at the surervalue which is very well stocked. It would give Scally's of Clonakilty a run for it's money. We nearly always stay at Sexton's site when we are down that way.

As it happens the French guy was going to Middleton for his next stop, so I did mention to him not to arrive too early!

Heading to Cobh tomorrow night for our first night out in forever.
Really looking forward to getting out after being unable to get away for ages due to circumstances outside of our control.
I know the weather is not great but I really don't care.
If anyone else is heading in that direction don't be shy give us a knock.
Eurostyle we have the sticker!

Well back from Cobh.
Can I update you all, they have extended the number of MH parking places. Approx 20-25 last night.
They have installed one of those gym type outdoors play areas and also a decent play ground just up from the parking areas!
We arrived with a 10, 11 & 12 year old who loved and adored the whole experience. It was safe and really clean.
No other facilities as yet (apart from an area for recycling) however there are plenty of bins in the area.
Also the locals really appreciate the custom.
We ate all five of us in Gilbert's they spoilt the girls and we were offered a really nice wine not on the menu for the same price as the one we had chosen and the total bill for 5 starters, 5 mains and complimentary ice cream and little cones for the three girls for €110 - well worth it.
In the morning the cruise ship the Caribbean Princess had pulled into Port.
This is a lovely free option for those who have kids and want them to have a little freedom.
Also if heading East from here the swimming pool in Youghal is a good stop over to tire them out!

Services bay currently being built, 10 more parking bays being added making 30 in total, there may also be an additional 3 or 4 extra long bays parallel to the railway line fence for MH's over 8 metres,.

An official opening is planned for early June.

After official opening the Pay & Display machine will be turned on, a 24 hour ticket is expected to be €10, the services will be free.
