So...this July we are thinking of heading to Wales or England in the motorhome for our first proper holiday but we are total newbies to heading abroad...any tips or recommendations? We only have a week to play with!
We went over in the Dub a few years ago and toured Somerset. Had an absolute ball. We just treated it like heading West for a week and didn't bring anything different.
Only thing I would suggest is gettting your self a good campsite guide for UK and Ireland. That came in handy a few times especially on the first and last nights.
Other then that there were no suprises. Just go and enjoy yourself !!
edited to add - Bring a Sat Nav
They don't signpost the routes by place names, it's all road numbers and I'd have been lost without the Sat Nav.

Hi Bronagh, I could suggest you try the lake district, my wife and I have just spent a week there over easter and we stayed at millerfield Aires. Its right smack in the middle of ambleside and only costs £7.00 pn you use this as your base and you travel about on the bus this way you get to see the lake district for next to nothing, a 7 day ticket will cost you about £28 and you can go where you like. Google ambleside aires and you will get the contact information, if not let me know and I will post it on here for you.
Regards
Tom

dont know if you are a member of the (camping and) caravan club if not it might be worth while joining, you get a discount on the ferry (not a lot but every little helps) and a sites book in which are listed their "CL/CS" (depending on which club) sites these are small sites often a corner of a field which may or may not have toilets/showers or electricity (the facilities are in the club guide book) and are very cheap - often as little as £5 or £6. we stayed at some in Scotland which were excellent (toilets showers and hook up for £8 per night!
Of course there are also the club sites big full facility and more expensive (about £20)
Heading over to Wales and the Lake district myself in July.

I would second that. I belong to the CCC in the UK and the savings on Irish Ferries are good. I looked up the sailings I wanted on the internet then booked through the CCC and got roughly £40 off my return journey from Holyhead to Dublin (which I think is more than it costs to join).
They also do extra 'holiday sites' during the summer incuding some in Northern Ireland, which are often in school playgrounds, rugby clubs etc. and cost about £7 per night for members. We particularly enjoyed the one in York where you could walk along the rive to the city centre.
Thanks for all the feedback folks!! We have booked our days off work so next stop is planning our big adventure! Tom I will definitely be interested in the Lake District but maybe when we have a bit more time to combine it with somewhere else, so hopefully next year, I wold be very interested in the Aires you speak of!
