Long time since your post, but you can park up in the Station carpaek for €4 . Or there is another C arpark at other end of town beside a Chapel, where I also stayed a night. See if you can spot the "Elvis" house nearby!
I know this is an old post but seeing as I'm in kk I said I'd pass on what I've seen and think was a good place to park up. A lot of campers seem to use the second, rear car park of the newpark hotel on the Castlecomer road. It's very private and has a playground and animals in pens. I presume people may use the hotel for a lunch or dinner while they are there as a gesture of good will but I don't know. It's only 10mins walk to town and is very safe as is completely out of the way from people walking home etc.

Yes!
I was at a Wedding there last year and parked overnight , lovely and quite. I asked the porter when I got there if there was anyplace nearer than Treegrove and he told me park down in the second Car Park.

Ye I'm a member of the gym over there and the access is via the back and you would often see them there. Not in groups just individually. The location is fantastic and much much safer than the others mentioned above. I wouldnt recommend down by the library as it's too close to town while being hidden in terms of safety as it's poorly lit at night. People often use the lidl and aldi car parks too as they are close to town but only 10mins from motorway entrance at Danesfort. Just said I'd put them up as a bit of handy info.

I've often stayed at the campsite just outside Kilkenny, it's quite basic, but lovely and it has all amenities, good and clean, and very nice people. campsite Kilkenny Since I travel on my own, I feel safer at a campsite.
