I have seen a number of motor homes have support legs that can be lowered at the back like caravans...while in hols in france this year I notice a few motorhome had 2 bottle jacks under the back axel to stop the rock over and back....got me wondering...Any opinions good or bad on it..would it make the van steadier?

We had them on the chausson, Don!
Only used them once in a storm, made the van a bit steadier alright but too much hassle to use them all the time and might be not be a good idea to use them if you were wildcamping and needed to get away in a hurry.

They are on my Adria Vision and I use them all the time and I would highly recommend using them as they make the van so steady and secure.

They are not cheap to have the Alko ones fitted, why not try a couple of scissor jacks first to see if you would actually use them.

I rarely wild camp...Typically we are away for 8 or 9 weeks in France and spent 5 days to a week in the one site not moving. F C's idea of the scissors jacks is kind of what I had in mid. I saw a few motor homes with bottle jack under the axel each end...rated 4 ton..a bit of flat wood on top and a bit under neath...and it got me thinking...priced thoises jacks at 13 euro each in one of the big hyper markets ......so for 26 euro it might stop some of the swaying. Just wondering apart from the 26 euro and the inconvenience of raising and lowering them is there any damage I could do.?

I would imagine it is a waste of time putting jacks under the axles as the movement is in the springs, you would need to put the jacks under the chassis I would think.

I used the built-in AlKo levellers in Frrance about 2 years ago. When I reversed to exit the pitch I forgot to release them. There was a fearful tearing noise. Luckily the ground was very soft, so no damage done, other than a trench in the ground.
