Stopover on the way back to Cherbourg

 ·

Hi all.
We are just coming to the end of our first trip to France.
We are due to sale from Cherbourg on Saturday evening and looking for recommendations of a stopover between La Rochelle and Cherbourg for Friday night.
Anywhere like a vineyard or farm?

Also looking for tips on where to buy wine in Cherbourg

Thanks in advance

One of the best supermarkets for the drop of vino in Cherbourg that we have found is E LeClerc, Tourleville at lat 49.6327, long -1.5916. Excellent choice and good prices. In fact I find E LeClerc good value for wine and better selection than the other supermarkets.

I would second the mont st Michel comment, we loved it. it's been on my to do list for a long time.
we stayed in Ponterson, camping Haliotis, which is 4kms away. you can cycle along the riverbank to le mont to save the parking charges further down towards the coast.

I agree that the Le Clerc is very good for shopping and so is the Auchan.
After shopping head down to the port area where all the yachts are. You can park beside the harbour masters offices. Water available there if needed. Yacht club nice for a meal /drink and wifi if needed. Handy area for walking /cycling around Cherbourg which is very nice. Then 10 mins across the bridge to the ferry terminal.

There is a beautiful Aire in Saint-Brice-en-Cogles north of Rennes. Exit 30, from A84 to D155 and cross over the bridge about 10 Km. Wine in E.Le Clerc in Coutances and Auchan in Cherbourg

We have also used this Aire on route up to Cherbourg, there is an overflow Carpark just off it if the Aire is full, this is accessed from a differnt entrance . As John said this a lovely Aire well positioned for last night before the Ferry

We stayed in Ferme de la Fossa Rouge last week near Omaha Beach. One hour from Cherbourg. Look it up on campercontact. 5 euro per night incl hook up. 3 euro for water fill. Lovely pitches. In Amboise now and heading to Brittany tomorrow before we head back Friday
