HID lights

 ·

Hi I am attempting to fit HID lights to my old van (Fiat Ducato 290 based chassis) and I have come unstuck. If I turn on the sidelights the HIDS come on as well. I have done the reverse polarity thing by switching the wires at the power socket but no difference. Anyone any ideas at all?

Couple of problems. both will likely result in an NCT fail The beam pattern and the headlight washer system.

http://www.ncts.ie/NCT%20Manual%20Revise%20May%202012.pdf page 30 note 4.

Personally driving a low slung car for everyday use.. They should be banned!!!! There are enough decent bulbs on the market as reliable good image replacements.

Each to their own Tony.

The van is not on the island of Ireland and nor is it Irish registered. As for bulbs been there and done that. For the most part I don't drive at night but on the odd occasions that I do I really would like to see where I am going :D

Northern Ireland and UK have had the HID washer and levelling rules for a couple of years now. I know many that have failed after retro fitting and others such as suburu impretzas that are factory fitted with HIDs new but don't have a wash headlamp attachment.
Generic headlamp washers are available on the cheap on ebay but it's sometimes difficult to find a suitable mounting position.

Something tells me it is an EU regulation regarding the figment of HIDs and will be a test fail no matter which EU country its tested, simply because it isn't on the cert of conformity. Saying that I have them fitted on my motorbike, but it's been off the road for the past two years but it did pass mot with them on!

It's a leakage of current, or else you have dim-dip headlights, had the same on a BMW.

Located On RHS where the suspension strut cap is located, just below the fuse box in the glove box, there is a earthing area with about 6 in it.
Also on LHS drivers where the fuel fill point is there is another heap of earth connectors.
My disco lights were caused by several earths not being connected after the new struts were installed.
Tristan identified the issue and he was spot on!!
