Following over a years of lobbying Fáilte Ireland have put a project team in place to look into the provision of Aires along the WAW.
The leader of the team recently visited Midleton and Cobh as part of their research into the issue.
Recent meetings leads one to think that there is a developing commitment to provide overnight parking places and services along the route for those who drive it in motorhomes.

Yesterday I received a draft copy of the FI document MOTORHOME TOURISM ON THE WAW, all 13 pages of it, for approval.
The document will be the FI position on the issue and will be used to promote the provision of MH overnight parking and services by Local Authorities along The WAW
It was pretty much spot on.

The introductory paragraph reads:

With the introduction, development and promotion of the Wild Atlantic Way it can be assumed that more motorhome visitor traffic will be attracted to the western seaboard and, given the current resistance to the provision of required services and facilities for this sector, a change of policy among both public and private sectors will be necessary to ensure appropriate provision to win additional business and support the rural economy. Motor home travellers fall into the Culturally Curious segment and as a group are highly influenced by the experiences of other motorhome visitors.
The level of investment required in the provision of parking and services is relatively small and speedy provision will result in a quick win for the Wild Atlantic Way programme.

Now that could be craicing good news. Nobody will ever change the mindset of the greedy, but Hymer the motorhome god will look after the needy.
