Hi. Is the gearbox dipstick on a 1996 ducato tdi easy to access? I know where it was on the older 2.5td ducato engine but want to check before my hols?

What is the engine type? The 8140.27 gearbox dipstick is underneath the vehicle directly between the front seats.
Its a bugger to get to - absolutely unless you have a pit.
You need a torch with a magnetic bit on it and dont mind your hands getting boggin a little

Most of the 95 on have an oil level stud on the side of the diff housing, the rarer ones with a dipstick, it's at the front of the box.

Thanks Tristan. its on a knaus 1996 traveller 705 so hopefully standard engine. Does the stud come off to check the level or what.

Yes, if oil drips out, it's full. The body and make of motorhome would have no bearing on the mechanical bits tbh.

Is it true that if you get a longer dipstick you don't need to put in as much oil

On a serious note,

My 2001 has the stud (21mm) on the side of the diff, just above where the drive shaft comes out to pass side (LHD)
