Hymer Skylight Winder

Hi All,

This is my first post on this forum so appologies if I dont get it right first time. I have just bought my first Motorhome a 1991 Hymer B534. One of the problems i need to tackle is to replace the winder mechanism for the rear skylight. I have the handle itself off but how di i get to the mechanism. Tried taking off the lower trim around the hatch but it seems to be glued on.
Any help from Hymer owners would be appreciated.

Declan

I am interested in this as mine has seized up as well on my B564 - dont know if its the same principal but to get to my winder mechanism

I believe you have to go into the mechanism through the top. If you look at the skylight from the roof of the van you will see the 4 bars that stick out through the skylight - these have spring clip washers on if you gently remove these there is enough flex in the skyight to remove the thing. From then on you can see the winding mechanism. I havent got any further then this as I want to get a new mechanism before stripping it down any further.

Regards

Phil

Thanks Phil, i have just realised that i needed to tackle the job from the top as you said. The mechanism is totally bust, nylon cogs disintegrated. I can see some mechanisns for sale on ebay for 70 stg plus 25 postage. there seems to be a few different types so i need to find the serial number of the MH.
Do you know where the id plate is ?

Declan

ps i don't suppose there is a hymer agent in ireland ?

Congrats
Declan - a fine yoke you have there
The model plate is inside the door to the habitation on the fridge/cook/wash up area. I have already placed on this site the assembly photo of the unit for the 534 if you can do a wee search - and the model number is there also/ I look around the PC for it also but may not get back to tonight to you.
