Westport Overnight Parking?

 ·

Hi all, Is anyone aware of a place to overnight in or close to Westport in Mayo. I have been told that the usual parking place at the quay is off limits now as signs have been erected stating no overnight stay in Motorhomes.

The signs have been there a while. There were vans there last weekend. Are they in forcing it now

Ken not sure but I was told that Motorhomes had parked in a piece of vacant ground, not along the side where they normally park at the quay, and a gate has now been erected to stop them parking.

I was there last weekend along with another Irish and German van,

No problems,

there's a winter storage area with a few EHU's and water, not used during the summer and would be ideal as an aires but it's owned by the council and if they opened an aires the Westport house would start a racket as they are robbers in my opinion,

Thanks John. Was that along the side of the road on the Quay that you stayed or in the storage area you mention?. Where is the storage area?

Not parked there myself, but there are old posts on here which indicated parking was tolerated opposite the guarda station.. Sorry can't remember the name of the street.

We stayed in Westport after Easter in the car park at the leisure centre, it's pay and display. We also asked in leisure centre could we use showers etc and they said yes not a problem. Car park very quiet at night .

In my opinion there's no campsite in Ireland worth that,

Btw if they are booked out they will expect you to park in the car park and still charge you full price, Happened to a friend of mine and he wouldn't stay, ruined the weekend in them.

Usually use leisure center car park, but it's closed off this weekend due to Westportif cycle. (reason we're here and abandoned by our chauffeur). Decided on caravan park for that reason alone as I didn't fancy trying to entertain 11 y.o. parked up all day. When we got here early yesterday it was grand and quiet, toilets and showers spotless, fast WiFi, site well maintained. Sorry now!!! It's like a zoo, noisy, queues for showers, etc. They've opened a football pitch for at least 30 tents ( looks to be a rally) separate from tenting area and they're all using this site facilities. Parked up on the side of the road would have less foot traffic.....and a lot cheaper!!!!

Somebody mentioned using the storage yard which is already equipped with water and electric as an AIRE . I think that is a great idea as I seen the location yesterday - Barrier in place at present.
I think the area referred to in early posts which is now fenced off on quay has a gate at the road train stop which has no lock on same.
The caravan referred to is rather roof and ready and arrived yesterday (Broken off side window) and I suspect that it belongs to the guys who set up the bouncy castles and the carnival planes.
Hope somebody might make reps on possible aire.(Baguette!!)
We parked van on quay during the day and went cycling on Green way to Newport.
