PUNCTURE REPAIR USING HOLT SPRAY CAN( SLIME )

Friday 5 am on way to work in my jeep cherokee, heard a banging type of noise I had picked up a 2.5 ins by 1/4ins bolt which was still attached to an angle iron bracket. It had entered on inside edge of my tyre just in the first block tread pattern.which I pulled out.
I put the slime in and re inflated the tyre drove 4.5 miles to work and by this time tyre was almost flat again.I put my spare on at lunch time and spoke to an HGV tyre fitter to see if he could help offered £££,but he said once you put slime in the tyre it's scrap. :'( New tyres had Only been fitted 2 months. :(
Now the good news I phoned the tyre company I normally use explained what had happened Slime and all.
NO PROBLEM bring it in in the morning we will give it a rinse out and it will be ok Which they did.Only charged £12.
I had seen these tyre repair kits with the plugs and bradall and a reamer type thing.I had been told by the HGV tyre fitter they couldn't be used on radial tyres .
I asked my man about the kit and showed him one on e bay,and he replied no problem using them on radial tyres. He also says the RAC USE THEM when they come out to a puncture on members cars.
But are still only an emergency repair although I looked on u tube and a lot of people had continued to use a tyre repaired in this way in both cars vans and motor cycles for months and even a few for the life of the tyre. I have ordered 3 kits of eBay £2.50 each have a look on u tube to see the kits in use.
When I get another puncture this will be what I use you done have to take the tyre off to repair and loose very little tyre pressure.

I'd avoid that HGV tyre man in future Dave, he sounds like a "book" man

I have been using plugs for years, sometimes the sticky feel goes off the plugs if they are sitting around a while (in toolbox for years) simply get it ready by threading it through the eye of the needle and get a match/lighter and heat it slightly and this will make it tacky again,

Sometimes if you get an awkward object 2 or 3 plugs may be needed to do the job,

The plugs cannot be used on the tyres with tubes inside which are getting scarce now

You can't use it on side wall of the tyre.

Same here, I have been using them for years and never had a problem with a test regarding plugs in the Tyres.

I have used them on a Range Rover, Ford Focus, Motorbikes, Quads etc over the past 15 or so years. Not as said here to be used in the side wall. The tube of solution can evaporate so id keep an eye on that if you have an old kit. I was given my first kit as a present and when the 'snots' ran out I bought 100 in a pack on ebay.
I don't use them as a temporary repair and sometimes it has been handy enough to do them with the tyre on the vehicle. All vehicles have passed NCT.
