Legoland/London

Hi Guys was just wondering if anyone had taken a motorhome to Legoland/London. Was thinking about taking going across on the ferry, Holyhead or Pembroke, and driving down towards London. We have family in London. And the kids (7 & 5) would like to see Legoland.

Only thing I would be concerned about is the congestion charge in and around London. I think it applies to vehicles operating within the M25, so look into that.

I was there in a motorhome couple of years ago when I hired one, access fine no issues, large carpark but dont think you can over night there. Get there early whatever day you are going as the carpark soon fills up. If you (or anyone you know) has tesco vouchers use these to get your tickets.

That is the LEZ (Low Emissions Zone)
https://tfl.gov.uk/maps/low-emission-zone

The congestion charge zone is much further in.

I'm not sure what the situation is with the LEZ if the vehicle is foreign registered, as the control is by way of ANPR and that links to the DVLA database.
If the vehicle isn't on the DVLA database how can they tell if it complies or not?

If the vehicle concerned is from Northern Ireland then it will be on the database, but not if from the south. However the various countries do share information, best example is the toll on the M50 around Dublin, they can and will chase for the payment for cars from the north and it will be a lot more expensive than paying it in the first place.

Legoland is outside the zone.

Found this.............

Vehicles registered outside GB

If you're driving a vehicle registered outside Great Britain
(this includes vehicles registered in Northern Ireland), you'll need to register it with us to let us know that it meets the LEZ emissions standards so we can add your vehicle to our database.

It's important that you do this, because if you drive in the LEZ without registering, even if your vehicle meets the standards, you'll have to pay the daily charge, or may receive a Penalty Charge Notice.

I still don't know how they would catch you/enforce it.

Considering all NI registered vehicles get their tax etc from Swansea I think they will be on the database, but others may get away with it unless there is a good extradition treaty

Went to legoland Windsor last July on way to France. No official MH overnight parking. Stayed at a lovely wee site along the thames called camping amerden for 25£. Cycled along Thames to Windsor and Took train into Windsor. Lovely area and I'd do it again.

The motor home is registered in Ireland, could chance it. But think the family live in Zone 5 so charges, hopefully, should not be too expensive. But definitely something to consider. Thanks for the tips.

Hi, I don't know what all the discussion on the LEZ is about. We will be in London on this Friday, staying in Lee Valley, Edmonton. This site is with the LEZ. We simply went on the LEZ site, registered, had a swap of emails as they rightly so couldn't find us on the DVLA. Within a couple of days they sent us a letter telling us that we were registered to enter the LEZ and all without charge.

The process is simple, follow it.

Hi there,
We have visted Legoland many times with our camper and it is easy to access from the M4. There is space to Park and there are always a few vans in there. You can't overnight as someone else suggested but I believe that you may be able to use the Park & Ride car park ( at the entrance) to overnight although I haven't.

On park tickets, have you got the dicounted tickets available on some Kelloggs cereal boxes and they get you approx 50% discount.

If not you should consider buying annual passes as they are about the same prices a two day passes. We bought them a few years ago and manage to squeez in 4 visits to Legoland ( we live in Wexford) over the course of the year, so they really paid for themselves

One other point of note , the M25/M20 can be a carpark in the evenings so if you are intending heading to France after the visit( This is generally our plan) give your self plenty of time. We left 4 hours one year to get to the Channel Tunnel ( should take 2 1/2 max) and we ended up missing our crossing. When I apologised at the check in desk the lady told me that it was normal and not to worry about it.

Lastly Legoland is a great day out so enjoy

I visit family in Ilford, I drive very slowly around the M25 and sit in the traffic jams, I have never paid congestion charge, it's always slower going through London and much more congested, stick to the M25, less of an ordeal but no charge.

Just back from Legoland, Chessington World of Adventures, Central London and the Silverstone Classic....in the car.

Saw plenty of MH's on the way down/up to Cairnryan and whilst I did have a longing, the distance to cover in a week (1149 miles) coupled with automatic trans, cruise, climate and general maneuverability won in the end and I went for a hotel package.

There were quite a few Motorhomes parked at Legoland (alongside buses etc in the coach parking area). If anyone wants any tips or info on the park, I am happy to share what I know (2nd time in 4-years).
