Aire tap connections

A little pointer for you good people who maybe crossing France and using Aires. The hose connections are different to ours they are 26mm gardena but can be bought in Leroy Merlin stores on the big shopping malls for around 3 euro. Seem to be getting installed now instead of taps, I suppose to stop people leaving the tap running,
Don't forget to take your fitting with you after use

Thanks for the info.

We have been using Aires for a few years and yet to come across the large fitting in use. Thanks you for letting us know some are changing to this size. I have carried the larger adapter size after being caught out once a few years back.

heading in sept not sure what you mean by 26mm gardena is this a fitting i need or what done the google thing but no wiser

Just a little clarification as regards connections,it seems according to MMM magazine page 179 of July editon you would need a double male connector (Gardena 916-26)to access the water and a female connector(Gardena931-26) for your hose. Our fittings are from the Hoselock system while in france they are from the Gardena 26mm 3/4in .Hope this makes it a little clearer whilst they look the same there is difference.

What about Taps at the Aires in Ireland, are they usually push fit or threaded

Homebase shops were doing their own brand of tap and hose conection earlier this year. About a tenner I got about 8 different combination and you fit the lot into your pocket. For a hose I got a magic streching hose goes from about 10 feet to about 50 feet when filled with water in Homestore and More, for another tenner. Again it takes up very little room. Also been soo short after use hang it up on the door mirror for 5 minutes and the excess water is gone

The French could have any damn type of connector we found !
At an aire this year it was a big 1 1/2 industrial pipe !...... goodness knows what fitted it !
The larger threaded connector is used a lot in France, especially in non "bourne" type DIY installations, some other ones have taps wth no threads on the connector !.....
But the majority are fitted with the small/large threaded fitting that we all commonly use...
Best having a good kit of connectors for all possibilities, kept in a sealed Tupperware type box to keep clean.

One other thing to look out for, especially in France, is that there is sometimes only 1 tap so people use it to clean out their toilet. When we were in France last month there was a huge rumpus because some people turned up to use the services and although there were 2 taps clearly marked, they put the drinking water hose into their toilet. Some French motorhomers saw this and went mad. There was a huge scene resulting in the wrongdoers going away. If there's only 1 tap we don't fill with water, because even though we don't use it for drinking we use it for cleaning our teeth.

The French are also as bad when it comes to which tap to use, seen it many times even with the euro relais that have a bar to stop you putting cassette under. Always carry a Dettol spray and antibacterial wipes and i don't drink the water as i carry a 10 litre container and i'm careful where i fill that .(only ever boil the water). I buy water for drinking.

Yes, and works...... but when filling 120 litres it's a lot of filling/emptying.... but it's a must have item in the van.
