What size Motorhome and Caravan are you talking about? There is a big difference between towing a 10 ' Caravan behind an American RV or a 25' caravan behind a light weight Motorhome with a long tail swing.

As long as you are not over your gross train weight it should be ok.

Maximum authorised mass
Maximum authorised mass (MAM) means the weight of a vehicle or trailer including the maximum load that can be carried safely when it’s being used on the road.

This is also known as gross vehicle weight (GVW) or permissible maximum weight.

It will be listed in the owner’s manual and is normally shown on a plate or sticker fitted to the vehicle.

The plate or sticker may also show a gross train weight (GTW), also sometimes called gross combination weight (GCW). This is the total weight of the tractor unit plus trailer plus load.

I have checked out the weights and it's ok but will the motorhome pull the caravan just like an ordinary van or will it put stress and strain on the van given the overhang

Depends on your chassis and how the tow bar is fitted, if in doubt I would get it checked out. Some towbars are only fixed to pull light loads. If your chassis goes all the way to the back without a break then it should be ok but I am no expert on that.

As long as the towbar has been correctly fitted to the chassis there should not be a problem but just watch as the tail swing of the motorhome will make the caravan go slightly wider in tight corners.
As for the pulling power there should be no difference than towing with any other vehicle.
