Hi folks,
Anybody here running a Hymer with a 2.9ltr Merc engine. I am about to service mine for the first time but am looking for advice on acces. Aside from the bonnet and inboard cover, are there any more panels that can be removed to get at the filters etc

I have a mirage A class with that engine.
Have not serviced it myself but the mechanic says its a gift to work on and filters etc are cheap.
It has a timing chain and after 55+k miles it is still perfect.

Thanks Digger,
I have watched many service videos and they appear to be very handy when you have full access to the engine in a saloon car. I had a look in the Hymer and it appeared cramped. Will have a chance to look at it properly over the weekend.

Hi celtichymer, we have a 99 hymer with the 2.9 merc engine 5 cylinder, as digger said filters are cheap and i find the access is ok and is a relatively easy job to change oil & filter & air & fuel filter. Have managed to do service just by removing bonnet however it does depend what model you have.

Do you mean to just do an oil change or a full service? Rear brakes commonly stick on those, front wheel bearing often needs adjusting, arb drop links wear out, and the internal handbrake shoes usually need winding up.

Sorry for the delay in my reply Tristan. The rear hubs were off last year and slave cylinders replaced. I still haven't serviced it yet but intend to do fuel and oil. The pump I have on it threw me as there is no manual prime and have judt found that the Bosch PES5 doesent always have one. I will be serviceing but ading a bulb primer as without it they can be a politician to bleed.
