Gaz

Hello,
I will come to Ireland from Switzerland, through France and with IrischFerries.
I am wondering what kind of bottle of gaz I need to travel in Ireland to be able to make the change in camp site or other places.
I intend to stay 2 or 3 month in South et North Ireland so I will probably need to refill or change my bottle of Propan Gaz.
What is the color of your bottle or gaz? At which places is it easy to get them (patrol station or other?).
Please advise me on this subject which is very important for me.
Looking forward to hearing your kind reply.

Our gas bottles are not the same as yours ,so staying here for 2/3 months you will have to buy Irish bottle ( yellow ,Butane is most commonly used and is widely available ) you will also need a regulator

If you arrive with a full bottle ( or 2) then you will have time to settle in and get the feel for Ireland.

We use butane (yellow bottle) approx 4, 7 or 13 kg and the same for propane ( red bottle )

Camping gaz is also available but not widely.

May I suggest that you visit a recycling centre when you arrive where often you can get empty bottles free ( small gratuity for the staff works wonders ) and then you can simply swap for a full cylinder at one of the many stores. Regulators are easily available from stores, or if you check out on line you can get an adaptor for the bottle to your system.

Hope this helps,

Davy

There is also a gas refil outlet in Athlone that will refill what ever bottle you have, I can get the name and address if needed,

I heard of a similar outlet in cork,

The pdf file explains a lot about the different gas fittings in Europe. As far as I know Irish propane fittings are the same as Germany; butane the same as Spain.
You can't exchange a foreign cylinder for an Irish one; you'll have to buy and Irish one for about 30 euro. You could come with one cylinder and then buy one here.
Look at Calor's website, as there are differences between Ireland and Northern Ireland [same as UK].

Hello Mad Max,
Sorry to acknoledge receipt of your answer so late.
And thank you for the tip and the link.
I take the boat from Cherbourg to Rosslare next 4th of June.
I will take with me a full bottle of gaz and as I intend to turn Ireland clock wise I will plan to pass by Athlone on the way north.
And by the way I could pay you a visit and drink a good Guiness with you in Galway!?!.
What do you think?
Bye
