Where to get cigs in Cherbourg???

Can anyone help please! In France at the mo and heading home on Saturday and am looking for the places in Cherbourg where you can get cheap cigs for the good lady. Any advice much appreciated and thanks in advance!!,

hi.... Dont think I am wrong... but you can only buy cigs in the tobac/ news agents over in france.

You can normally only get them in a tobacconist, but some of the hyper markets may sell some. I know it may not be much help but in Spain its a yellow sign saying TABAC, dont know about France as I dont smoke.

Yes you can only get them where you see this sign.


I understand that Tabac sales is a govt. monopoly in France and licences are hard to get.
The story I was told is that the sales monopoly was created after one of the wars to provide jobs for war widows and at the time they were the only people who could get a licence, but I can't find any confirmation of that, so perhaps it is a old war widows tale.

I think prices are fixed, so the price on the ferry should be the same as in any Tabac.

You will get ciggies and cheap fuel in Auchan Supermarket at the top of the hill before you drop down into Cherbourg Ferryport
