Ryanair insist on Passport as photo ID. others don't.
Legally they are not a requirement between Ireland and the UK but Ryanair's policy states they are required to fly with them. You might also have to check their rules on children and ages ie how many children of what age per adult? think it might be 1:1 under 14 ? or it was a few years ago.

Eirbus, check out Aer Lingus, there was a time when you could fly from Dublin to Shannon and return after about two hours. It worked on transatlantic flights that called to Shannon. I think the outward leg was to Boston and you returned on a flight that arrived in from New York. Short, inexpensive and ideal for a kids first flight, and no passport to worry about. My son was about six when I took him and he enjoyed every second of the trip. He even got to sit in the pilot's seat after we landed in Dublin.
