Hi all,
we have been to collioure and cerbere before and stopped at aires but intend going down into costa brava this summer. Do any of you have actual experience of aires there?
Also interested in wild spots or any cheaper campsites even. Not interested in the large rip off static campsites, just smaller ones with more character (I know its prob a big ask)

Not sure about Aires etc but in Spain the law looks at motorhomes as cars and therefore you can legally park anywhere cars park so long as you dont camp (ie increase your footprint with awnings etc)

There was a link a while back to show the aires available in Spain, if I can find it I can post it on here for you.

We wild camped in Tossa De Mar a couple of years ago at the back of a leisure centre. There were a few other campers here, just up where the bus is in the distance. The police drove through a few times on their rounds and never said a word.

The coast road to the north of Tossa is very winding with lots of gravel lay bys, few campers in these too. If you are around in July make sure to pop down to the festival in Blanes. Lots going on around the town for a week or so and the fireworks are like nothing I've seen before.

I take it you saw the correfoc, with the fireworks being carried through the streets!

Never heard of that but sounds interesting! They have a night in Blanes when people run through the streets and people throw buckets of water at them from balconies, never did it and probably wouldn't either.

The correfoc is where they dance through the streets dressed as demons carrying fireworks and chasing people with them, the spectators dance under the sparks being given off. It usually ends in the centre of the town/village with a firework display being set off and sometimes for fun the firebrigade hose everyone down, then would follow that with a bull run through the streets with fireworks on the bulls horns.

They are absolutely bonkers when fiesta's are on.

I don't know how our H&S inspectors would feel about that carry on happening in Ireland! :D

The firework festival in Blanes is slightly less dangerous, they have international experts come in and put on a show each for 3-4 nights. Most of the shows last about 30 mins. There is some sort of prize up for grabs for the best display.

The Spanish love their fireworks. They have at some stage during the summer an International Fireworks festival in Tarragona where they do the same sort of thing as in Blanes.

Each of the towns and villages try to out do each other with firework displays as well, there is no end of entertainment over the summer period.
