Get 'er weighed.

When I got up this morning I accidentally put my anorak on. Then I was wondering how I could find out the weight of Helga without looking at the plate. This would help me to make better informed choices regarding tyre pressures etc. I found a quarry near me on the A1 Dromore Rd and after ringing them went down to weigh the ould girl. She's plated at 4.25 ton so I was surprised to see she actually came in at 3.48. The guy at Tullyraine Quarry could only give me the gross weight, and my anorakness wanted each axle separately. I drove on down the road to Loughbrickland and the DOE weighbridge. It was totally deserted but I spotted a sign explaining how to weigh 'er. There is a digital read out about 15 yards from a plate across the drive and this is where the info is displayed. No print out but hey, its free. As it turned out my front axle is 1.63 and the rear is 1.95. So, with about three gallons of diesel, very little water, and not fully packed, we have a potential payload of around 0.75 t. How much is that in cases of wine?

Strange and spooky. I passed the doe dynamic weighbridge at Toome yesterday and was tempted to give it a go. I must do it on the way back from Shanogue next time.

Whats the equivalent of DOE down there? Mind you, they'll probably charge but hardly 25 euro!
Have a look online

It wasn't the test centre, they sent me out to a nearby Animal feed miller in a hurry when there was no weights on the Log book. Sickening thing is that I buy feed from that firm but didn't have time to meet someone I know.

I have used the one at Toome.

Dead handy you just drive along really slowly and follow the instructions can't remember if it was lights or words but it was simple to work out.

Ah Paul. You on the cider vinegar again lol?

Gettin' 're weighed is like one of those things in your shed or garage. You hang on to for no reason other than it might come in handy some day. :alien:

sorry to drag this one up! we'll be up in northern ireland with the van in two weeks and I was wondering - are these open 24/7? (as we'll be doing at late night run up as far as the coast road and would like to tick it off before we start enjoying ourselves :) )
