I am thinking of fitting an 80 watt solar panel on my camper. Will this be good enough to keep 2x100 ah leisure batteries topped up.Would there be much more benefit in fitting a 100 watt panel the 80 watt panel is a lot cheaper just wondering would it really be worth the extra 20 watts .any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would fit the biggest panel you can afford, at this time of year even a 100w panel struggles to keep the batteries topped up so an 80w even more so.

I agree. It would be sad if you fitted the eighty and then some time later kick yourself for not spending the extra few quid. At the end of the day, it will be supplying you with free leccy.

You could fit the 80amp in the meantime if thats what you can afford at the moment. You could always fit another 80 amp at a later date and link them together on the roof with the proper connectors. That will leave you with 160amp which would be ample. That is if you have enough space on the roof of the motorhome for 2 panels.

If you are fitting an 80 watt the controller needs to able to take the extra panel if you fit the 2nd panel it depends on what your running off your batteries fit led bulbs great for saving power got mine off ebay get extra ones

hi sunTi, of course it depends on ur useage and if you have alternator charging leisure bats. I found that for me on my last van with no microwave ot sat dish and LED bulbs and with two matched 110 amphr bats that 80 watts was NOT enough and even with two panels I had to charge on EHU every couple of days even in France last few summers. But I did'nt have alternator charging. My new van only has 80 watt panel and it seems OK, but then we havent been away for a long period yet and do have alternator charging now, I would def recommend setting up for 2 panels now when u r doing the wiring even if you are fitting justone. Halfords sell a great device for linking up to 8 panels for 12£. I had my two panels feeding to the charge controller through this device which was very easy to fit.
