wait until it runs out of fuel

Sounds like a vacuum hose problem, I had that on the Musso and replaced a vac hose and it cured it, until I found that out I had to disconnect the battery or stall it, not easy on an automatic.

Stalled her in 4th Gear - ~Engine stopped now

OK - How does one replace the fuel soleniod?? Thats what www says?

Anyone else got any ideas?

Stripped out the steering column to unplug the ignition switch - unplugged ti find they are nearly fused together - so good catch

You have an older van so the rubber in the vaccum has probably perished

Where is the rubber in the vacuum Eirebus and how do i get into it.
Anyone know what the part number would be or how to replace please?

I cannot find on the www if the 8140.27 engine has a fuel cut off solenoid or anything like it.
Thanks for the valued assistance

Hessy. There is a fuel cut off solenoid on the 8140.27 (I know because when my engine was rebuilt they didn't fit the wire back on properly and the thing wouldn't start). If you look to the right of the fuel solinoid you will see the fuel pump itself (with the five metal pipes) running from it. I think the stop solinoid is at the end of the fuel pump (underneath) where the pipes come out of the housing. There is a single wire that is held in place by a 10mm nut on the top of the solinoid if I remember properly.

Hope that helps I can't take photos as I am miles away from the van at the moment.

I forgot Hessy the wire that goes to the solenoid points upwards with the nut pointing towards the sky. If i remember it is cylindrical about 1.5inch diameter and about 3 inches long. because it hadn't been fitted properly the engine would stop start intermittently and also cut out when not needed (going through the back roads in the Yorkshire Dales was interesting LOL).

:fgrin: o.O :o I am sure that the drive grey a few grey hairs :'(
I think this is it?? The shiny one with the green slightly corroded wire coming out of the top.
On getting my phone to it for photo - i did hear a relay switch type sound when i touched the wire - so i think the contact is corroded and the solenoid seems shiny and new.
[img][/img]
The yellow locknut stuff used on her around the injection unit> i assume that this is not factory stuff and at some point she has had work done to this unit.

Cheers Phil and all for pointers

That looks like it Hessy - my van is in Ireland and i am stuck in Budapest at the moment so I am doing this by memory - is yours LHD? (Mines RHD) I did think the solenoid was bigger then that and not part of the pump itself - I could well be wrong mate. I genuinely can't remember if it there or not but the fact you heard a relay click is a good sign. If it is corroded that would cause the problem as well. as for the yellow loctite stuff that doesn't look original - at least its not on mine thats for sure.

Got problems with mine on start up now - lots of smoke on first start up goes after a minute but lots of it - I hop its a leaking injector but pulling my hair out with it

Aye Hessy is LHS but i dont think that matters with the fit of engine in bay and just the drive and gear mechanisms are lengthened to suit

:'( Big Go-nads Broms :( - you just got that engine reworked also if memory serves me correct?

Hessy does smoke every now and again and substantially when i put the foot down - however with the fuel modifier that i stick in - it has reduced this and she burns better. Forget the name of it - but i placed it on here before and i can find/retype name for you if you want.

I have emailed the dealer to ask what the solenoid part number is and get it anyway to stick in the "onboard small parts dept" just incase it is needed during French trip.

Good luck with the smoke and thanks for the solenoid advice.
Keep us posted with progress please?

Your welcome Hessy - yes just had the whole lot rebuilt which is why its so bloody frustrating. Had a couple of garages look at it and they don't know if its a leaky injector or one of the oil rings on the piston is jammed - but both have said just drive it it is a good engine. Once it is warm she is fine - had 75mph out of her one day (fully loaded up) - but other then this she drives really well, pulls like a train going up hills - just embarrassing on first startup.

Don't know if it is any good to you but i have theB564 body parts listing with part numbers - let me know if you want it and will email it to you

Phil - will let you know what happens to it - if i bring it to Hungary will get it looked at over here

Broms, I'd say you've a leak in your cold start injector.

Tristan - can you enlighten me a bit more please - what and where is the cold start injector and is it an expensive job?

Thinking about it is the glo plug device on the top of the inlet manifold - fuel pipe goes into it and there is a couple of sealing washers and banjo bolts on it ? If it is I know that is leaking as it is constantly damp with diesel - tried cleaning wiping it down but it is gets damp? When the engine was first put back in it smoked but not as much as it is now so I wonder if that is the problem.

Apologies for hijacking your thread Hessy! If you want to split it please do so Ally

I was thinking of petrol terminology Broms when I typed that, yep as you suspect, the glow plug unit in the mani, it burns a little diesel, and if it leaks it causes smoky starts. As can injectors leaking off.

Hessy, did you find the stopper solenoid? Cylindrical thing , with a wire going to it, not a lever or cable .

Hessy who do you use for parts - I think I will replace the flame start and the associated parts and see if that cures it - should clear the dampness around it if nothing else.

Good Morning Chaps
I get my parts from the Web - i use Fiat EPR to get the part numbers and then search, cross search and weigh up P&P and other bits/comsumables that i may need to reduce the impact of the postage. There are significant parts available from ~Germany, Poland, France and Italy as these chassis and units are all over the continent. As you are in Budapest - surely you can get them at an economically better rate given the standards of living prices etc??

The Fiat dealer can give the best part numbers but their prices are totally nuts - unfortunately sometimes they do have the bit you need and coughing up is necessary :D

Yes Tristan thanks - I posted a photo of the bit on the thread "Part No 9948224" and the cost for the dealer supplying is £106 plus No 10, the WWW is £15? >_< Which to choose =)

I think it is the connector and i shall clean today. Might either of you know does the red handle adjacent to the fuse box operate this solenoid also?? A fuel cut off switch??

Have a great Friday :D

Hessy if it is the red handle inside the cab it is the leisure battery isolator - disconnects the leisure battery from the engine charging system.

ref the EPR do you have a good link to it - everyone i try to view gives me an error once i drill down to the parts listing. - sorted i think :-)

Language is my problem with the Hungarian garages LOL - my partner is not technical (bless her) and is a bugger for not translating properly :-)

The link i use is: http://eper.fiatforum.com/, but it does throw you out every now and again. I find if you use the pictures at the bottom of the screen instead of tabbing forward, it helps alot.
Here is a screen shot of the bit you need i think:

Strange one - did you see the picture i stuck up with the placement of the solenoid??
It might be the same but different angle. Hessy is LHD and the placement was on the left of the engine looking out the window? Here is the Fiat EPR photoshot:

Lhd and rhd only difference in dash, steering rack, brake pipes and a few minor ancillary bits. No.6 in the pic is the offending item, very same as what's in my top pic. Hidden behind a bracket, with the injector pipes below.

I don't think it is the same Hessy - if I remember rightly it is not part of the injector pump it is slightly to one side (right hand side as you look at the engine) and level with the bottom of the injector pump
