Old Tractor

anybody into old tractors?

I bought my 1st old tractor today,
It's an IMT make, made in Yugoslavia with a Perkins engine, I was told it's very similar to a Massey 590,
It's like a siv, it's leaking everything diesel, oil, water, power steering fluid, hydraulic fluid (through the lift) and the two back tyres have punctures aswell, oh and it needs a battery :o

But I'm adamant it will bring my turf home this year, It amazes me what they can pull when in the low range

All tips n tricks welcome

Hi John, I know of the Imt, there was a Dealer selling them not too far away from me in Bruff, Co. Limerick. Back in the 1980's. AFAIK the engine isn't Perkins, it is a copy made under licence from Perkins. As you say they are similar to the MF 575 / 590 range but I think some of the parts are not interchangeable, I heard of a guy who tried to fit a Massey lift cover to one and the stud holes were in a differnt position. The first Imt that came into the country was a copy of the Massey 35, in the late 70's. I think it was badged 535 but I could be wrong, my neighbour has one.
Anyway enjoy the restoration and hopefully you will get the sunshine for the Bog.

Thanks for that lads,

It's not going to be a resto, that's for sure, it was bought at the right money with a job in mind, turf!

I brought it back the road for a short cautious spin, very low geared (high range) so lucky the bog is near, but on the upside it should be better than a jeep and trailer this year,

Pat I thought the engine looked a bit different from the 165 alright but I'm not losing any sleep over it once it does its job ;-)

Best of luck with it. Hopefully you wont have too much pain fixing those leaks and it'll give you years of trouble free service! A proper little tractor is that one.

Like most of my friends and neighbours I've always had an interest in oul tractors. I had a longing for a MF135 for a while, but I eventually settled for a more modern little compact Kubota 4wd B7100 as it suited my needs for a tractor that can navigate through dense woodland. The little bull never ceases to amaze me how much it can do. I mainly use it for pulling lumber out of the woods but it had a million other uses too. Once you have an old tractor, it can become your 'right hand man' in every outdoor job!

Here's my favourite use for our "little bull"...

Once a year it gets a powerwash and a polish and is put into service for our local "family fun day".

Wow! your B7100 is in great nick, Kevin. I bought mine three years ago, pulled it into the workshop removed the tin work, made a anti roll bar for it and said it was mot going out until it was finished, then one day I came home from work and my son had it out working and it never got finished so now it is going around with No bonnet. You are after giving me inspiration to bring it back in and finish it.

Cool.

Aye, I was enthusiastic after I bought it, did a bit of work to it to make it pretty. Most of the original orange tin work was in good shape and polished up with a bit of elbow grease. I had to strip and repaint the wheels and blue bits alright... Atkin's have all the original colours in rattle cans if yer thinking of doing a bit of a resto. Good quality paint too, holds up to weather.

Have the Paint, have the Decals, don't have the Time :D and finding it hard to source 4 new tyres. It is a 1983 Model still on the original Firestone Cleated tyres, I must try Rathcormac tyres! Any Tyre Supplier I tried never heard of the sizes, Rear 8x16 front 6x12
