I have a Status aerial, the UFO shaped one. Is there much advantage upgrading to a 530/5 or 10?

I don't get a great reception but can usually get 2 or 3 channels not to bad so far. But digital freeview box has been rubbish!

Not sure if they are all full digital.

If yours is the circular one with the little spike on top I am not sure it is digital as they have been about for years.

Simon from Leisure tech solutions is the man to ask.

The 530 is digital compatable.

Well I don't know enough about the subject, but all aerials pickup digital. Just some aerials are better than others. Digital compatability is a myth to get you to spend more money on an aerial.

House aerials are meant to be colour coded for your area (the wee coloured inserts in the end), but MH aerials must have a wider range as they don't have this.

It's the same as a digital TV, there is no such thing, all TV's are analogue but they accept a digital signal. Think they have a digital to analogue converter built in.

But I'm no expert :)

ALL aerials pick up digital.
The difference is with analogue a bad signal gives you a bad picture - but you still get a picture, digital a less than good signal gets you nothing!

There are different "bands" for aerials but obviously you do not want to cart a selection around with you! so you need a "wideband" aerial (most if not all caravan/boat/motorhome aerials are) you also get a much better signal if you have a directional aerial which you can point at the transmitter - although you do have to know where the transmitter is!) the "flying saucer" is omni directional which is great becasue you dont have to point it but bad because its not very efficient. Finally there are two types of signal vertical and horizontal - thats why as you travel around you see the "teeth" on aerials upright in some places and flat in others if your areal is the wrong type you will lose a lot of signal.

Sorry if this all sounds a bit complicated!

The wee flying saucer aerial will only get you a digital picture in very good reception areas if you can up grade to a wide band directional you will have a much better chance of getting a picture.

Thanks for that, and welcome!

I have a transmitter finding app on my Android phone which would come in handy for the directional aerial.
It gives a line of sight to the nearest transmitter.

Hi Ramondo. Thanks for the details.

I know that the status 530 we took off our van was classed as directional as it needed to be rotated from below to get the signal. It also had a crank to make it turn onto its side to go from verticle to horizontal.
So what you saw make perfect sense.

Welcome to craic by the way

That wasn't meant to sound like it did!

I just thought they could of had a better name for it :)

There is quite a few available, I choose that one as it was cheap, .68 pence I think.
