Hi! folks,
We are thinking of a working holiday weekend in cork city in the next month or so and i have done the searches and read what i could find and it seems there is very little in the city center. From google earth there seems to be a large area around the docks near jurys.Has any one tried it or has anybody any updates on where might be suitable for a night or two?
Thanks in advance. Paul :-)

That particular area right by Jury's inn (Cé Anderson) is a gated compound Paul so no overnight potential there I'm afraid.

What size van do you have?

There is an area less than 1/2 km from Jury's inn called Kennedy Quay. It's a working quay where they offload cargo ships. I have noticed motorhomes of all sizes parked there during the daytime as it is an open area with no gates. I don't know the situation about overnight parking or how safe it would be, but I would say it has potential. Parking anywhere in the City is at your own risk of course.
Its a pity Cork Corporation haven't yet realised the potential for a secure parking Aire for motorhomes in the city... Some day perhaps they will.

Another option, You could always use the very popular motorhome Aire in Cobh and take the commuter train from Cobh to Cork central station if that appealed to you? I think it's about €8 return ticket and around 40 mins each way...

We have overnighted in the Wilton car park accross from the Regional Hospital without any problem and got the bus in front of the Hospital into the City. Again that is at your own risk!

Hello Folks,
Thanks for the reply's,we might give Kennedy quay a try.The four Q-car parks sounded good except for the height restriction.Has anybody tried the train station, from google street view it says 7 Euro for 24 hours.Hi Blag,we have a small van,a converted Renault master. Paul.

ETA. The Cobh or Blarney option probably wont work due to timing with work and we were hoping to spend the evening in the city without getting a train, bus or taxi. Its a shame how few spots there are in a big city.Maybe this warrants a pinned thread to encourage us all to lobby tourist offices, politicians, county councils etc. While i am on it Dublin is ridiculously bad.I know of one or two possible spots but the only time i ever see campers over nighting in the city is when i assume they are waiting for a boat and they are usually on the quays.

Its a fairly small car park so I wouldn't be counting on getting a space there unless you plan to arrive late in the evening when it'd be more likely to have some vacant spaces. With a Renault traffic Master you have a lot more opportunities for parking!

Thanks Blag, would you reckon the penrose wharf area to be a possible contender?

I would say you are not in luck if you are hoping to park at the train station to be honest it is hard enough to get parking there at anytime. I can also tell you that parking at any of the hotels in Cork is another no as they are all small and have limited parking. However the Silver Springs Hotel might let you park up at their conference centre if you were thinking of using the bar and restaurant it might be worth putting in a call.
The best bet is the penrose wharf area but I would give the garda station a call and ask their advice I bet they might know of somewhere that would be suitable. Best of luck.

Cork is a great city and there is supposed to be plans for an Aire over near the Airport Roundabout but that rumor has been around for years.

It'd be an ideal location for an aire though.
