Started Battery charging from EHU

 ·

Hi,

Can anyone advise me how to check if my starter battery is charging from my mains connection please? Starter battery was flat the other day so I connected up the EHU for about 10 hours but the battery was still flat. Eventually jumped the van and all is ok now but I thought the EHU should charge both batteries?

Over the phone my mechanic said a fuse may be blown but I''m not sure which one I should be looking at - there are many.

Chausson FLASH 08, Fiat Ducato 2009

Many Thanks

Never had a van that charges engine battery from Ehu, not sure if they are all like that.

Our Chausson don't charge the engine Battery from the Ehu either, if it does the ratio of Charge to the engine Battery is very small.

Kontiki 645 does it but you have to select the engine battery on the Sargent EC200 control panel

Ours also has a Sargent unit which charges the leisure and vehicle batteries.
It is possible for us to set the ratio of charge to either battery bank.

All makes must be different.

Thanks all

Found a manual for my control panel (pc150-tr) which pointed me to a 5 amp fuse under the kitchen seat. Seemingly my van is configured to charge both batteries from the EHU. The fuse was blown, apparently this can happen if you try to start the engine with the mains plugged in.....Replaced now and will test over the next few days....

Would be interested in how you get on. I was of the opinion that the hook up charged the leisure and starter battery, and I seem to remember a chat with a guy on a site in France who said that when the leisure battery/ batteries were charged it then trickle charged the van battery.

Ah now just to be clear here, any technical questions aren't coming from me but from Bob using my a/c. I'm true to my hair colour when it comes to engines, fuses etc lol

Mine does both, I have had each of my batteries out over the Christmas period giving them an individual full charge and test to make sure they are working as they should and all holding around 12.8v after about 6 hours, so all being well they should be okay for a while yet (touch wood and all that)
