Hi Doreen, I see you are also from the Premier County, The Tipp member count is finally beginning to rise on the where are you from Roll count. Have you voted yet?
To answer your question we use a 600W oil filled radiator and find it great and safe, we bought a 400W and took it back again, it just wasn't' good enough.

Doreen,
If you haven't decided on the heater by NYE make the trip anyway and see how the vans own heater fares out, as our vans own heater is more than enough for us,

PS...Keep a 1/2 bottle of brandy under the sink just incase O-)

We have only every used the van heater.
If not on hook up I find the gas heating can be too hot if Johneen gets her way.

We have never found the need to use an additional heater.

van heating is more than enough for us too
if on hook up use heating on gas to get temp quickly then switch to electric to maintain
never needed extra heating even under 6 inches of snow at la mon last year !

Yes I agree with all of the above, the heating systems on board are designed for all extremes. Mark I'm the same, have to sneak up and reduce the thermostat regularly. Best advice from me would be to leave well enough alone. If you're in doubt at all you could bring a small blow heater, so long as you're on EHU. Then again, I don't believe there's a safe alternative with gas.

As Eirebus might say DOH

Sorry Doreen, but I have heard that the oil filled are the safest in a van, I'm not sure if it would be as good as others though,

Hi Doreen

We have a van conversion and this has a Diesel Heating system which is very good but if heat needed when we have electric hook up we were recommended the Swiss Lux Quartz Heater like this one
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-…1121042535

Quite a few caravan dealers seem to sell this brand so you should be able to find one local to you

We have found it to be very effective and it can be safely be used in the Van for two reasons
1. it is not powerful enough to trip the site electric (unless like me you switch on the kettle and a couple of other things OK it was swmbo used her hairdryer))
it is however very quick to heat up the van on 800 and we have always had to turn it down to 400
2. It has a safety feature that it will switch off if knocked over

If you would like a negative that is it doesn't have a thermo setting.

We did try a fan heater but I found that seemed to be not very user friendly and the heat gave us a sore throat as it seemed so dry heat.

It is also quite slim so fairly easy to store which is important when you have a small van like us

We always an oil filled rad as there is no naked heat element which can scorch things if left too close
