I have booked our France 2015 trip this morning.

I went for Irish Ferries again as we are getting a return sailing with cabins for 3 weeks in August for €505 or £397.

Not bad considering we will get a free sailing to England the folling spring which would be around €390 or £307

The stenaline price for the closest dates (before discount) was £439

YES ALLY, I DID USE THE IRISHFERRIES LINK FROM MOTORHOME CRAIC!
I hope anyone else booking with Irish ferries remember to use the link on this site too.

We too have booked for next May. However its one-way only as we need to return via UK. Don't know yet which is the cheaper option - Chunnel or Calais/Dover. However I don't like the thought of driving to Calais as we will be in the South of France or in Spain. Can anyone tell me what prices are like from Cherbourg, Caen or any of ports nearby.

Hi.io you won't get the free ferry to England with a September booking. I'm going in September to France and phoned about the free trip and was told it's only part of June, July & Aug that you get it. Of course the prices are much more expensive then.

Having made the journey to Spain a number of times I can say that the mileage is not that much different from either Cherbourg or Calais if you are heading to the Med. For example from Cherbourg to Barcelona is 1321km and Calais to Barcelona is 1318km.

I have always found the ferry crossing to be cheaper from Calais than the tunnel, albeit slightly longer timewise.

I am dreading looking at the ferry costs we would like to go in June as soon as school gets out (first time in the MH) and I don't think it will be this side of Xmas that we book.

Shiv I booked from Dublin to Cherbourg away back and I only had to pay a 100 euro deposit and the balance next May. It means you get the crossing at a good price.

Mid may 2+2 €380 inc cabins with stena from rosslare,

Chausson's post below has reminded me that we also used the 20% ploughing discount! thanks agin pat

Check prices a few days either side of the dates you have selected. Sometimes it is cheaper to go travel on a Monday than the Saturday.

A lot depends on how flexible you are on dates and duration.

We have paid high figures in the past too.

You are looking at a four birth cabin for four adults both ways.
We are two adults in a two birth cabin both ways.

I agree the prices are mad for some sailings.

Some good advice from Mark there!
The Two of us are going in August and returning in early September for three weeks weth Stena for €446 including 4 birth cabin and flexi fare both way. I always go for inside cabins because I think there is less roll there in Rough seas. We availed of the 20% ploughing championship discount last September.

Just to let you good folk know that Stena have put the cabin prices for 2 berth outside up to 70 euro from 55, happened last night as I was booking for next years run to dear old Benidorm. So I booked Irish Ferries instead, knew it would not be long before Stena turned the screws.

Yes Mark still came up the same, With the price of oil now falling you would think the prices would follow suit as they did on the way up, but highly unlikely more chance of winning the Lottery.

that is very annoying for you.
I thought they had set dates when the cabin prices increased.

I know cabin prices are more expensive in high season but it is the first time I have heard of them going up while a booking is being made..
The only consolation is the free sailing to UK mainland next year with Irish Ferries if you are traveling in high season

Yes, but it is only €30 more, Micklad is talking about over €800 more, That's crazy.

I'm just after booking the ferry for July. Rosalare to Roscoff. I used the link from here and availed of the FRANCEC15 discount code. Hoping to use the free trip to UK come Halloween. I notice there is a surcharge of €120 for using it during peak times but I don't have any other choice given my profession!

Hi

Still a good deal, I am hoping to use my 2014 free trip next April and to book it from scratch would have cost around 370 euros.

I paid a little extra this year to get a cabin for a few quiet hours and on the return upgraded to the fast ferry to give us a longer last day in Wales.

Worth it in my opinion.

We're going over in Feb 26th. IF €396 with twin berths. £310. So that's a 24 hour sailing with berths each way. Going Larne Troon in May three hours no berths £340. Stroked again.

Or you can ring them which is what I did last year.

You will find more detail on their website, but you do have to search for it.

I assume you are going and returning between June and end of August on the main trip to France.

This as you probably know is a requirement of the offer.

Thanks Bob and Davey, don't know much about it, other than it has to be used out of the high season. It does make the price to France not so bad as it worked out to be £1500.00 for the French crossing.

The thing to do is to put your details into their Dublin Holyhead or Roslare Pembroke for a fictional trip between now and June to see how much you are likely to save when you use it from September onwards.

I expect to 'get back' around 300 euros on this years trip. The French trip in June was in the region of 550 euro.

On our last jaunt because it was free I upgraded by taking a cabin outbound and the fast ferry on the return so a trip for 70 euro was good.

The other main point to bear in mind is that it must be the same vehicle and at least one of the original passengers. Some of the dates that are excluded are the rugby weekends.

Thanks everyone, I'll definitely save loads as we're big (about38ft long with car) and it makes the expense of the French crossing a lot easier to bear. Cheers.
