My Truma C6000 needs help

 ·

I know its been discussed before in various forms but its worh a punt before I pay Donaghey's too much money.....

My Truma C6000 in my new (to me) van isnt starting up. It sounds like its not getting ignited, then stops.

Im getting lights now on swith panel which I wasnt, previous owner was arsing about with fitting a new steroe and the fuse for heater was by-passed. So now I switch on, with water in tank and gas in bottle. It starts the fan whirring, then makes a sequence of faint clicks (maybe ignition sparks), then a clunk of a solenoid, then red light and shut down.

Anything a DIYer can check first before going to Donagheys to get it checked out and a bill to choke a horse?

The unit is a C6000 from 1998 Knaus, factory fitted.

Fingers crossed this is a cheap fix.....

The Original one in Hessy does the same for a while when i turn on the gas and try to get it started up and it did get me anxious a few times, but we managed to get it fired up eventually.

I would let it go to the thunk solenoid a few times, then turn off. I then start the gas heater and run for a bit before turning off again.

Then try the water heater again on low temp and after a few more thunks again - it works

I haven't worked at all with the system with exception of coating all off the rusty heater bits with black enamel heat paint to stop further rot.

Best of luck

You may have an airlock in the gas so just keep trying by re starting the sequence once the red light shows. You could try to press the master reset button on the side of the boiler, its under a small slide up flap on the side of the boiler where all the electric wires go into (usually the most inaccessible spot)

My combi does that if I have run out of gas or forget to turn on the regulator,

I'd make sure you have plenty of gas and that the hob is working, if hob is working maybe the pipe feeding the boiler is bunged up, easy to clean it, but awkward to get at I'd say,

that red switch is only to reset the 220v side of Combi's fitted with electric heating .

Hymer544 , is it definitely getting gas? If you listen at the vent , can you hear the sound of gas trying to light , or just the sparking? Is your gas regulator definitely ok ?

hi tristan, i dont have the 220V. I am assuming I have gas since the fridge and cooker are getting gas? But I dont actually hear gas during start up, just the whirring of a fan and then some very faint clicking (not as defined as the clicking heard on my older truma heater, more muffled), then the shut down, so es it does seem that gas isnt getting through. Could the gas pipe really be so blocked to prevent any gas getting in? Should I undo gas pipe feeding boiler and check for gas there?

Make sure the supply to the boiler is on at the manifold

It could be the supply pipe gummed up or the jets blocked. If you feel confident enough disconnect the gas and the pipe from the isolation valve to the boiler and try blowing down it to see if it's blocked, not sure if an airline would do it or if it needs to be soaked in a solvent. Then work your way back testing the isolation valve in case it's stuck closed etc. you only need to go back as far as the branch where the feed to the fridge and cooker are as they are getting gas.

It certainly is Hymer544 but when you don't have the hands or the nerve to do it like me therein lies the problem. Although I don't have problem with gas as I was once a gas fitter. Having said that I now would have all my appliances checked annually by a qualified gas technician.

There must have been something in the line , as an air lock would purge itself after 3 or 4 tries . And it's not fair to say "exorbitant labour charges" , it's not cheap for us in the trade to pay our rates , stock parts , go on relevant training courses , buy tools and equipment for testing gas etc....
