1992 Fiat Ducato Turbo

Hi all

I recently got a 1992 Hymer c46 with Fiat Ducato 1900 diesel engine, LHD.

Wondering if it's possible to swap out or turbocharge the engine to get better performance on hills and when overtaking on motorway.

I'm happy doing 100 km/h on motorway but recently in Wales and seriously irking other drivers on long hilly sections of narrow roads. Would be nice to have extra ooomph

Thanks

Brian

I would doubt it as the engines are made for the long haul instead of overtaking crudos.
You are pulling couple of ton not a tin car behind >_<

Basics - Fuel additives + good fuel, clean filters & no excess weight - might get you another couple of KW power :D

I relax now as i slowly edge pass those on the inner lane, forget those behind you as when they two finger salute after they eventually pass - feel free to return the welcoming gesture with a smile :* and they are away and in about 1 mile they are over it and annoyed at themselves for getting irate. (Or is that just me? :o )

I had a Talbot Express(ducato) 2.0 litre which was 1990 and it had a Turbo retro fitted. forget what company it was. Try asking here: http://www.talbotoc.com/portal.php

Look at an engine swap for a 2.8td, might be easier and cheaper.

Thanks. Do you know where I might get one?

Thanks.

I'm getting used to the slow way now and liking it. Just a bit concerned when on narrow hilly roads and would find a bit of extra power useful.

I'll try your advice and forget about those behind me. :D

By the way, what additives would you suggest?

Hessy is running on a 4 to 1 mix of Diesel and Vegetable oil straight into the fuel tank, but i add Archoil AR6200 Pro Fuel Conditioner & Cleaner to give it a bit more bang for the bucks - and it is great. Running straight with the additive - it does give more bang, less smoke and takes all the water from the system.

Highly recommend - the price of a bottle of Gin :'( - but - you only use 5ml per tank for the first few tanks then down to 2.5ml - so it lasts ages.

Your yoke should be able to handle the veg oil too - and at 69 pence per liter - sure the environment and your pocket is a winner every time

Found THIS on Amazon. What do you think? Is this better that single BG244?

well the oil ones won't help a diesel issue , but they do flush a lot of gunk out of the engine if it's not had good servicing or bad oils.

Thanks Tristan

Should I just go for the BG244 then?

I purchase the Veg Oil from Makro in 20 litre tubs.
Cheapest i have found that doesnt solidify while sitting. You may see on occassion while solids appearing in some cartons of oil - these would not be the best for burning ithink
