Glendalough if you are into hiking or history. Stay at Glenmalure lodge car park, nice pub grub and live music at weekends.

There are some day trip reviews in the review section worth checking out.
We did the Dunbrody famine ship New Ross and a few hours at the Kennedy park one weekend.

Ardmore has a great pet farm and a lovely place to eat called the white horses for a night away on the South coast. Nice little play ground in the village and the beach is lovely. There is also a lovely cliff walk.

Went to Hidden Valley last year and I took two 8 year olds who really enjoyed it. I must admit we did too.
Parked up at present unfortunately :-(
Might help to tell me what age the kids are as I have a tweeny who is too cool for school at present.
Great place Ardmore Pet Farm - for young kids.
Perks in Youghal for indoor wet day that has bowling and a beautiful indoor carousel.
Villerstown on the Blackwater has a fab water adventure centre.
Further along Tramore has a great surf school and of course the merrys all year round and some good fish and chips.
Waterford winter wonderland worth a trip for the month of Dec, with an ice rink, carousel in the town centre and outdoor market for shopping.

The weekend is over, we had a great time, weather was on our side, it was very quiet down in Glengariff but we didn't mind... totally hooked after this, more adventures to follow..

Is the site at the Dundonald ice bowl open over the winter, also handy to Belfast etc

Yes it becomes an Aire after 4th November and is only £8.50 a night with EHU.

At last Castlereagh council have done something positive. It makes more sense to have this location as a aire than a Campsite. The campsite was always under utilised and no wonder. Did you ever try to find it? This should be a boon for overnighting in the big smoke.

Only an Aire in the winter months. It has been that way for 2 or three years now. We used a couple of winters ago, found it great and secure.

As a side note it will be interesting to see what happens when Castlereagh merges with Lisburn to form one of these super councils, will it remain open or fall prey to the various cuts that are likely to take place.

in County Donegal go to the top of the Fanad peninsula, there is a great beach, two of the three beach accesses have good motorhome parking. take the kids to Ed's Archery Archade and if the conditions are right it is the best place in the country to see the aurora borealis

Thanks for tip, can see us spending any spare weekend up there, as the other half is praying/determined to see the northern lights. Def a lot cheaper and a lot more breaks away than going to Norway etc. with high hopes. Plus 10 year old will enjoy Ed's Archery. :-)
