Steel Rim repair

Hi

Does anyone know if steel rims can be repaired in Ireland? Bent the front rim last night on a traffic calming island and although the wheel is not leaking air (following some attention from the AA man's hammer) I would prefer if it were straightened. Thanks Bob

Hi Bob and Siobhan,
Mechanic friend reckons a replacement rim is the best option long term, but a good hammer repair, if not leaking air, or can't be felt in steering will see you out till you find a cheap replacement.
Hope this helps.

I agree. If I couldn't get my hands on an undamaged one straight away, then I'd take it to my local tyre guy. He would test it for leaks and throw it on the balance machine. That would give a bit of peace of mind as a temporary measure.

Sounds like you were lucky enough not to also need two new tyres. The other day I stopped to help out a tourist in a rented MPV that had clipped a stone ditch near our place (lots of those around here). Not only had he made sh1t of the alloy he had split the wall of the tyre also.

Put it on the back while you are waiting for a replacement it is safer, did you check the tyre on the inside? it could be damaged and blow out if you didn't.
