That's an awful pity
Had not used the service but had hoped to next year.
Having paid Irish ferries €1500 Euro in the past for a Ireland /France crossing
Lack of operators =lack of competition .
Docking at St nazaire was an added bonus

Could see it happening, only 1 truck and 9 cars in August when I traveled, it was an excellent service, so sorry to see it go.
any idea why, it was so poorly supported
I don't go to France.
Hazard a guess, Ireland North & South is not very populated, we don't have enough people to warrant competition so we are stuck with the cartel's that service the sea's. Our politicians don't care enough or have no clue about tourism enough to create an industry based on that.
We had a good service, Celtic Link, unfortunately another Cartel ruined that.
Hell in a handcart.

It was very badly advertised, it looks like to me that they didn't want to sail this route.Only did it because they had to.

Why had they to sail this route?
Whatever, I recon they lost their shirt on it, the Boat was only half full when we sailed and there would be less on it next year due to them upsetting people by cancelling sailings this year also they were unlucky with the bad weather earlier in the year when they were launching the Route.
You would imagine that it would save a fortune for transport companies with Lorries going down south and would have got better support.

I have a feeling that the stena takeover from Celtic may have had something to do with it,
I think it was set up to frighten Celtic into thinking that it was going to be competition for them, or that Norfolk line wanted to buy Celtic and when they couldn't buy they put ld on to frighten them and they sold out to stena,
All my own thinking by the way :bandit:
Still sorry to see it finish up, as we have seen the prices for next year are up already
We traveled with them out and return again, boat not full on either journey. Our trip with them was very positive and we would certainly travel with them again My understanding is the boat was on lease and that finished in mid sept but its possible ldlines will be back next year again, they are part of the dfds group so I dont think they will disappear.

LD Lines, which operated ferries between the UK and France and Spain, has closed its route from Poole to Spain. Both the Poole to Santander and Poole to Gijon crossings have been closed.
The Poole to Gijon route has been operational for less than 12 months.
A spokesman said: “LD Lines can confirm that we will be withdrawing our Poole to Gijon and Poole to Santander services after the 7 September sailing from Santander.”
The ferry operator originally had sailings available to the end of September, but suspended bookings for the period beyond 7 September when it started reviewing the future of the routes.
“As a result, a relatively small number of customers are affected by the closure of the routes. All such passengers have been transferred to another UK - Spain operator on sailings as close as possible to their LD Lines booking.”
In addition, the crossing from Rosslare in the Irish Republic to St Nazaire and Gijon has closed, while LD Lines’ crossing from St Nazaire in France to Gijon in northern Spain remains “under review” with a final decision due in shortly.
This leaves no LD Lines routes out of the UK, as the Portsmouth to Le Havre and Newhaven to Dieppe crossings are now operated by DFDS.

Someone asked the question why did it close
If other users of the cross channel ferry's are like me , I never heard of LD Lines until it closed . I can honestly say I never saw an ad or any promotional material for this company :
