Rooflight & Blinds letting in light

 ·

My last van - Auto Trail, was complete darkness inside no matter the light outside, my new van Compass, the roof light lets in small triangles of light along both sides of the roof light, each fold to allow it to fold closed has a little triangle of light. The window blinds let in light at the bottom, I was thinking of some draught excluder type stuff to block the light on the window blinds, but they look as if I might be able to turn the whole blind upside down so the light comes in the top - making the blinds lift up instead of pull down.

Anyone got any workarounds ?

my skylights are just the same as yours ally ,but the side window blinds are fully enclosed u could try a piece of thick pipe lagging on the bottoms and remove it in the mornings .

Only go in winter! :D :D :D

Not sure about the roof ones but you could try sticking a strip of draft exculder to the back of the rail of the blind (which would be unseen) and if necessary to the front of the rail of the fly screen (although that would be visible).

Took my own and Marty's advice...

Windows sorted.

Bought this...

Doesn't need to be as wide as it is, easily sliced up the middle so got double the length, still need another packet, but the end result is good, not perfect but a lot better!

Needs to be stuck on the top of the fly net rail and the bottom of the blind rail.

Now to sort that roof light!

Paint the skylights black. I have blinds in a box that were on dragons den, they are cut to size laminated black paper concertina blinds that can be cut to size. Cheaper on ebay than direct.
Absolutely no use to you but might be of use to others.

how about a strip of plastic , about the size of a ruler , over the pleats where they slide along?

Hmm I'll look at that tomorrow, but I don't think there is any room at all, as the end of the blind runs very close to the edge.

Thinking outside the box here but judging by the second photo it looks to me like you could break up a Toblerone at night, insert to block out the light, then eat the triangles with your coffee in the morning.

Obviously there is an on going cost with this solution but perhaps you could negotiate a 10% discount for MH subscribers? 8-)

why not use a piece of heavy material and fix it up at night with velcro and take it down in the morning. I do that with the small rooflight over the bed as it doesnt have a blind, its also cheaper than buying one.

Sorry Dave,
I meant to look at the box that same day but only remembered when I saw the box this afternoon. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like…108&ff19=0.
