Good Morning All

Anyone got suggestions of where to pitch up where there is ease to the Promenade?

Best Ferry routes?

the Belfast Liverpool route is your most direct route but takes around 8 hours, belfast Cairnryan is a longer drive but shorter crossing. Overall probably a similar travel time, so its whether or not you prefer to drive or sail.

I havent been to blackpool in must be going on 30years, at the time I said I didnt think I would be back and so far I have kept that promise. Dont get me wrong its probably a lovely spot but it just wasnt my cup of tea. (Hate amusement parks and the big dippers!)

Another crossing to consider is Seatruck they sail from Warrenpoint to Heysham Is is a freight ship but probaly they have the newest ships on the Irish sea. Motorhome and 2 persons £99 each way. You can only book up to two weeks ahead and only travel on a day sailing. A cabin is included and all meals. There are no lifts so you must be fit to climb stairs .

That's good to know.

One thought though, they have the newest ship because they crashed the last one a few years back ironically off the Blackpool Coast, I think it was storm related.

If I remember correctly it was engine failure in a storm and the ship drifted onto a sand bar at Blackpool.
would have been handy to wade ashore to Blackpool at low tide though. On a serious note they have a new fleet. They also run Dublin to Liverpool same terms and price .need them to take on the monopoly on the Stranraer route . Seatruck would make a fortune and we would save a fortune and the tourism in Scotland and Ireland would grow as well.

The usual problem for me is the 8hour crossing, I hate boats but they are a necessary evil living on an island.

I always went Belfast Liverpool but have gone twice this year Belfast Cairnryan and planned a couple of hours stay at the Shopping Outlet at Gretna Green. Next time I hope to park there overnight.

There is a lovely small municipal site near there in anan, extremely basic but handy for Gretna etc. we spent our first night in our caravan when we bought it at that site as it was only a couple of miles down the road.

Seatruck is a great deal but carries only 2 in cab and under 12's not allowed :(
Unsure you would see the blackpool illuminations from Gretna Green

Think we will go through Scotland, then Blackpool and back home again for a few days. Later in year and a 2 hour crossing in bad weather may be the better option :D

If you have kids then stay at marton mere our boys thought it was the best. Lot of kids and really set up for them The bus stops at the site for easy access to the town. Saves any bother moving or trying to get a parking spot.
