roof skylights

Hi guys. Another newbie here
we recently purchased a 14 year old dethleff globetrotter esprit.
I am having a problem with the small front and rear skylights in our van.
Basically the inside flap part of them keep opening and coming down .
The hinges are fine
There are two bits of plastic that stick out of the flap that go into two holes in the main skylight body.
They seem to be worn and will not "catch" the skylight holes.
I am hoping that someone might have an idea of a handy fix
Any ideas most welcome.
cheers

Hi Fork,

Welcome to the forum, unless someone comes up with a more sophisticated 'fix' I would consider Velcro (sticky back version) which can be bought in various sizes and lengths quite cheaply and would solve the problem until you discover a better method.

Thanks for the welcome.
The thing is that the inside part of the roof vent fits into the roof vent itself.
The way it looks from the inside is
1)Inside screen with intergrated blind and flyscreen.
2) Vent body
3) Outside cover (raiseable with two handles).
The Velcro idea sounds good but I have taped them with strong tape and they still came down after a while.

The main worry is that they might come down at night and because there are beds just under them, that they will be broken off by someone turning

Hi Fork,

We replaced ours this year and generally they are 400x400.
They tell you on some of the sites how to measure them.

Good luck.

Yes, Duct tape is like Star Wars. there are two sides.

The Dark side.

and

The Light side, which holds the universe together!! :D

we'll not get into the discussion as to wether it is duct tape or duck tape. Loads on the net about that!!

Right
thanks to youtube ,I discovered that I could take down the inside screen which I did, after spraying the hinges with a good bit of silicone spray.
I then heated the the plastic lugs that were worn by holding them over the spout of a boiling kettle ,and then carefully putting slight pressure with a flat pliers.

refitted and it seems to have worked
probably only a short term fix but who knows
new ones are the guts of 50-60 euros.
thanks for all the advice and help

You could also build the tabs back with some araldite and a lot of patience and stead hands.
