Window Wiper Assistance

Good Afternoon All, :-)
Its been quite a while since i thought to ask as the resting position of Hessy's window wipers is at 12 o clock instead of 1500hrs and it has been that way for a year now.

How it happened - May have no due cause but I was parking when the wipers were on, indicator was placed on and then I turned on the hazard lights and then the rain stopped, so i turned the wipers off (accidentally the wrong way turning on full pelt then straight to off position )and they stopped half way up the screen. :o

Over the course of a few days their resting place moved around the place over the screen and eventually have settled at 12 o clock.
They work fine and as long as they don't block my view - they are grand

Happen any one else? - Any Ideas? I was thinking that there is a contact in the motor assembly has come loose and shifted 90 degrees. Never took one apart before so don't want to take the chance in-case i wreck it :(

Thanks

Wiper Stem has Probably Moved on the Spline where they're Mounted.
The Wiper Stems are Normally Held on by a Nut(which Probably has a Plastic Cover on it,which usually hinges back to Expose the Nut).
If You Slacken the Nut and Move the Wiper to it's Proper Resting Place, then Retighten the Nut,it should sort it.

Thanks Paddy - but its both wipers exactly the same positioning.
So the sweep starts at 12 o clock, opens anticlockwise to 11 o clock and then goes down the full window sweep clockwise to three o clock and then back up anticlockwise to 12 o clock :o

Sorry about that :-) All those clocks in there :o Thought it was Pink Floyd for a while  :D

So i think it is inside the motor or the relay where the issue is - the controller area - or both would act differently / independently and cause havock on the windscreen :'(

This used to happen to Mini's, for the life of me I cannot remember what it was but I think you are on the right track with a relay.

Cheers Ally
Wonder how you test a relay = or where this particular relay is fitted?
Maybe close to the motor??

more likely it's moved on the spindle of the actual motor , Hessy . open the 13mm nut there , loosen the arm , turn on the wiper switch to let it do a cycle. Switch off , move the wiper arms til they sit in the correct spot , ie Horizontal , and retighten the motor spindle arm.

Beat me to it. This would be my guess too.

Cheers Lads -
If the relay was knackered - the wipers wouldn't work at all - but they do - so the spindle seems an excellent target to check out
I will have a squidgen inside tonight if i get a chance and come back to you.

Wonder it is an Nylon or Brass Bush having wear/tear or might it have been a Nylon connector expanding in the wet and giving way to the mechanical motor force?

Big  all - you have removed the fear of wrecking the motor while going into the unknown and perhaps having to arrange two rope attachments for the other half to operate the wipers while i drive this weekend

If it's a splined tapered shaft on the motor & primary arm, the splines may have worn if the issue has been there for a while.

Simply setting the position as described above and tightening the nut should see you right, but if the splines are worn, that'll make things a bit more interesting. There are a few tricks for fixing that problem too but we wont go into it until you've had a proper look first.

Have fun!

I don't think manufacturers use nylon/brass parts for the primary drive on wipers, where the motor attaches to the arm but I may be mistaken. I'm not 100% familiar with Hymers!

I've done the "two rope trick" with fked wipers in the past, not much fun!! lol

Good luck.
