We spent a few days last week, we started in Killybegs and went the circle round to Ardara. Coming in to Ardara I used the fuel station bought some diesel, a few groceries and a couple of 99s. I spied a water tap beside the air line on the way in and while paying for our stuff I asked the young guy who served me if the tap outside was drinking water, to which he replied it was. I thought I may as well top up when I was there and reversed over and was at it a few minutes when a bloke walked around the back of the van and said 'you can leave 3 euro for the fill in the shop' I was quite taken aback with this and told him I'd asked the young assistant in the shop and he hadn't said there was an issue. I also told him I spent the best part of 40 euro and if I hadn't I wouldn't have dreamt of filling in a commercial premise without spending some cash.He ranted on about water rates, I was a bit pissed by now and pulled the hose out of the cap and told him it was madness. I told him we've been in 5 different countries is mainland Europe and this was a first.
He kind of backed down at the last and told me to fill away, but I just got back in the van and left.
Anyone else had anything like this happen here in Ireland?
