What is this poll going to achieve?
What is the benefit of having the result?

Its just a poll to the question of how many belong to clubs, its not going to change or achieve anything other than give everyone an idea of how many do what away from here. Those that dont belong to any clubs but may feel that they are missing out on something and decide to join one or more.

We already know that the majority of active members on this forum are not members of clubs. Many have said it before. If people are looking for somewhere to gain information but don't want to join a club for whatever the reason this is the ideal place for them.

Getting members to vote in a poll on here is a difficult enough task and many call Motorhomecraic a club. I know it is clearly mentioned that this is not a club but I have spoken to one member face to face who named three clubs he was a member of and MotorhomeCraic was one of them.

Those that "may feel that they are missing out on something" would get a better answer if perhaps it was a thread called "what club and why" or similar rather than a poll.

Just my opinion.

I thought we got £50 quid from John for our vote? That's why I voted and was waiting on the cheque in the post.

Interesting what people who use this site think WHAT Motorhome Craic actually is.

When Ally set up the site I am sure that it was a Forum

Forum is defined as "a place for open discussion"

But I wonder if due to all the wonderful hard work of everybody in with rallies and other organised and infact non centrally organised meets evolved into a CLUB

Club defined as "an association of people with a common interest or who jointly engage in a particular activity"

I guess I am responsible for this one, Mark. I was thinking out loud on another thread last night and somebody took up my suggestion and put up the poll.

What I am looking for out of it is reasons for us getting little support for Craic meets down south , it is the same story at all of the meets with approx 80% of the Motorhomes coming from the North of the venues. at the recent Tipperary meet we had three Motorhomes from Northern Ireland and out of the ten Motorhomes that turned up eight came from North of Roscrea. Cork is one of the strongest counties for Membership yet only one Cork Couple ever come to Craic meets. I am beginning to think the reason for this is they are all Joined the Phoenix Motorhome Club, my reason for thinking this is we were at the Flesk caravan site Killarney, St Patricks Weekend and there was 40+ units and we met them again in Ardmore a couple weeks ago and they had 50+ units.

At this stage I have kind of given up on holding meets further South and am thinking of Joining a Club myself. What Clubs are out there that hold meets in Munster ( Most Craic Meets are too far North for us) and why should I join them or why I should not? if you have Negative replies you might prefer to PM me.

That would be a shame, but needs must.

Most Craic meets are to far North because the majority of Craic'ers in the South won't play ball :)

I have ran forums before, I have said this before and I shall say it again. Motorhomecraic was started as a Forum, to help Motorhomers in Ireland mainly, but also Motorhomers visiting Ireland, it will never be a club, but is here to also help club members as well as it's own.

The original thought was too hold two meets a year, one in the North and one in the South. The meets became that successful that it just escalated from there, it got to meets being held every weekend.

No Matter who goes off and joins clubs or if there is never another craic meet (no chance of that) Motorhomecraic as a Forum will always be here, as that is exactly what it is - A Forum, a website, a community, made up of different people from different backgrounds with one interest - Motorhoming.

Groups of people will make their own little communities as they share a common interest, are the same age, drink the same amount ;), are tee-total, love music, love racing, from the same area - whatever, they will find other Motorhomers more suited to their company.

Motorhomecraic has brought a lot of people together and will continue to do so :)

Sorry for ranting, went of on one there ;)

Ally, When I say I have kind of given up on holding Craic meets further south, I don't mean that I have given up on holding Craic meets just ones far south, we have held a good few Craic meets south of the Border in recent times and I don't think we have had any one from Clare, Limerick,Kerry, only 1 Motorhome from Cork and 1 from Tipperary attend a meet that I was at

It was never my intention to offend anyone by asking who is joined Clubs, I just would like to know first what Clubs are out there, How hard is it to join a Club, I think most Clubs need someone to recommend you, how are you suppose to do that if you don't know any one in the Club?

If we have any Motorhomecraic members involved in Clubs, you might let me know the name, and a bit about it.PM me if you like, I was very impressed with The Phoenix Club on the two times we came across them, a very friendly bunch indeed.

I intend to join a Club for some local socialising and do love the Craic meets but most are too far away and sorry again for ranting on.

most clubs have websites
go on there and see how to join
don't think you need recommended etc
mccni can be joined by applying online or go to a rally and join there, and i think the other clubs are the same

have a look at where their rallies are and what suits you
some run more rallies some are local some rally at events etc

look at their galleries
any of your friends in clubs, talk with them

then pay your money and take your chance........

Some sound advice there Bob! I looked at some on the net but it is like buying a new Car ,they all look nice on the brochure. I am more interested in clubs active around Munster, anyone know Clubs other than the Phoenix club in this area.

Great discussion folks!
I think of mhc as more of a social network rather than a club as i think the online presence offers way more than any club ever could. Having said that, i am with Pat as regards the meets, and perhaps more info on clubs might be of use to some of us :-) the only other club i have known about is the imcc which we joined thru the person that got us into motor-homing, but having received a few newsletters i cant ever see us going to any of their rallies- just not our scene (as opposed to mhc)
Anyhoo, howz about a thread for clubs / club info etc ????
