Travelling with 3 women

Hi Craicers, Heading off with D wife, D daughter 19 and D french pal 18 for 5 days. ( I must be mad :'( ). In order to give the ladies a bit of privacy and myself a bit of quality silence I've decided to bring a tent for my nightly accommodation, leaving them in the camper, so all stops will have to be in camping parks. Itinerary running something like this. Day 1: Drive Wexford to Newgrange then on to Belfast, Loughshore caravan park? Day 2 : Titanic, Carrick-a-Rede and Giant's Causway then on to Blaney caravan park Lough Erne. Day 3 : Marble Arch Caves then on to Eagles Flying Ballymoat Co Sligo and camp at Lough Rynn caravan park. Day 4 : Clonmacnoise and West Offaly bog railway in Shannonbridge ending up in The Apple for the night. Day 5 : Cahir Castle The Rock of Cashel and home to the Sunny South East. :-) A lot of driving, I know but I enjoy it. Any comments or tips on the attractions and camp sites most welcome.

Are you actually allowing time for the tent to be put up! The jump from giants causeway after everything else that day is a big one especially after all that walking.

The biggest tip I have is watch out at carrick-a-recede and giants causeway, the national trust will like to remove the contents of your wallet. If you are not a member you will pay for the car park at each site plus each person. At the giants causeway you can avoid the extortionate price by not entering the building. You will pay the car park but walk around or over the building, you will understand this when you see it, as they only own the building not the causeway and cannot charge to view it. It's a long walk down and seems longer up so pay for the bus at the top as you can't pay and get it at the bottom! This will save you £8.50 each, it might sound as if I'm a bit of a miser but the visitors centre is crap and not worth it. I went when a member of the national trust and was glad that I didn't have to pay as I was out in two minutes bored.

Carrick-a-reede you have to pay as it's for the maintenance of the bridge.

join the national trust, so worth it.

we arrived at giants causeway about two weeks ago at around 7pm and told to go back to bushmills town as they not allow campers in carpark...so back we go and park up, get bus up, free if member...we parked over night at this carpark along with couple others campers...next morning we popped back up again on the bus and spotted campers in carpark...

springhill free in if member national trust and overnight parking only £6..lovely courtyard and plenty grounds for a tent.

if u join national trust, florence court free near the marble arches,

dont forget this wednesday OPW sites free so newgrange and clonmacnoise free in....just did clonmacnoise last free wed and lovely spot. next roadtrip planned ourselves for this free wednesday.

ENJOY. Just did our first 14 nights in camper thro northern ireland and scotland...best hol ever.

Lough Rynn Caravan park is lovely, small, but with a new block including excellent showers and toilets, cooking facilities etc. very good and think still 15 euro per night.

The swiss cottage in Cahir is worth a visit, its free on Wednesday, 1st wednesday of the month.

Apparently if you join the Scottish NT it is cheaper then the English one but you get exactly the same benefits

Is there an Irish equivalent to the UK National Trust and does it give any benefits up here in the north

Thanks for the info and tips folks, places booked and we're ready to roll. Pity about the bog train finishing, it was a very interesting and informative ride. Titanic, Carrick-A-Rede and the Giants Causeway will be all new to me so really looking forward to the trip. I've even volunteered to look after the catering, I hope there's lots of good chippies around. :D Not worth joining NT just for the brief visits, maybe next year if we plan ahead.

Well I survived, just. Had a fabulous time but North of the border was frustrating. All we saw were places that we want to go back to and spend more time exploring. Left Wexford at 6am :o and got to Newgrange around 9. I would advise anyone visiting during the peak tourist season to arrive as early as possible. They only take small numbers at a time into the chamber and it cannot be booked in advance. By midday people were not staying because they would have had to wait until late afternoon before their turn came. Then on to Loughshore camping park outside Belfast. Lovely little campsite, see reviews, and very handy for the Titanic exhibit. I could have spent a couple of days at the Titanic. brilliant. We did part of the Antrim Coast Road on the way to Carrick-A-Rede rope bridge. Beautiful driving, the only problem with it is it's not in Wexford. If you had never stood on anything higher than the footpath outside your door then you'd probably get quite a buzz from crossing the bridge. It's interesting and I'm glad I saw it and at least the car park was free. I'd love to cross over in a North East gale  but as soon as the weather gets interesting the NT closes the bridge. :'( We spent so much time at the Titanic that we hat to forget about The Giant's Causeway, it's on our list for when we return. A lot of driving but well worth it, and we'll be back to finish the Antrim Coast Road and explore some of the lovely spots that we saw on our trip. We saw a lot of flags out, did someone tell them we were coming? :D I even spotted one flag flying upside down, perhaps they were in distress. :D A lovely part of the country especially when the weather behaves.

Well said Hilton, let's encourage tourism for Norn Iron and not scaremonger potential tourists re prices, many people think it's worth the money . A little guidance is acceptable but do not go overboard.

Just had a lovely couple from Scotland staying at Shanogue for the last two nights, they loved NI & Donegal and can't wait to come back, next time visiting more of NI but making a point of visiting Ireland.
