Big Euro Trip

As I've already posted in Concern Post we're on our first great European Motorhome adventure. It is a combination of campsites (mostly) and aires. We are a family of 2 Adults and 2 children (10 & 13)

So far we've traveled Cavan to Rosslare.

Then Stenaline to Cherbourg (used to be Celtic ferries).

Then from Cherbourg along the Normandy cost to Camping Vitamin in Dieppe for 3 nights. Lovely quiet site with great facilities. €40 per night and free Wifi in reception or €5 per day throughout the site. It has a great outdoor and indoor pool with waterside. Excellent MH facilities.

Then Dieppe to Eppe Sauvage to an Aire near Lac du Val Joly on the French/Belgian border. Excellent aire with good MH facilities. Stunning location overlooking a valley and near restaurants etc...

Then Eppe Sauvage to Brussels. Found by chance an aire in the centre of Brussels at the Generation Europe Hostel. It does cost €30 per night but it's 20mins walks from the centre of Brussels. It is secure and reasonably quiet and includes electricity, free Wifi in reception area, a buffet breakfast for the 4 of us and well as good MH facilities. Has a youth hostel feel to it but I think it represents good value for a city stay for 4. We turned up en spec but I think it is preferable to book but it worked out ok for us. Just 4 vans here.

Onto Germany tomorrow to the Blaue Lagaune campsite before Amsterdam on Monday. Will keep folk posted if interested. :D

Made it through Belgium, Holland and to the West Part of Germany and now settled at Blaue Lagaune website. Again well setup for MH's. €40 per night for pitch, electricity and free wifi in certain areas. Also access to the Blaue Lagaune which is a mad made beach/lake which is excellent. Oh and the weather is roasting! Here for 3 nights then on to Amsterdam before the journey back home again :-(

Great write up on Big Euro Trip - just back from Disney/Paris/London by car (as we only had 7 days). Looked longingly at every Motorhome we passed on route. Looking forward to doing something similar next year.

Arrived in Amsterdam,

Blaue Lagaune was fine, nice and quite and good family place to swim and relax. Couple of down sides - had to pay for MH emptying and water etc... Only a couple of euro but still... And the flies and mosquito's.... Plenty of bites to show for the 3 night!

First impression of Amsterdam Camping are ok but we've arrived the day after the night before! A big festival ended this morning and the place is a mess but as my wife says to me I was young once too!

There is free Wifi throughout the site which is great. Showers are €1 for 6 mins otherwise all else is included. €14 per day for a family to travel into Amsterdam by bus.

We've reached the top of our journey and it's been a positive adventure so far...

Thanks for the interaction everyone.

Thing to do in Amsterdam (for a family :-)) ?

Window shopping  :D Madurodam, a model village in Den Hague about 45 min by public transport. Canal boat trip. Ann Franks house. Look up Volendam and Marken not too far from Amsterdam well worth a visit if you have the time.

Well we're on the boat home after nearly 3 weeks on the road.

Left Amsterdam and spent a night in Camping Membling near Brugge. Pretty good site but rack em, stack em and pack em is a fair description of the site. Short bus ride into Brugge which is a beautiful place. Wifi on site €1 per hour.

From Brugge we travelled to Camping Jedstation near Ypres. Excellent and only €12 for the night and 15 min walk into Ypres. Wifi is free at reception area and great MH facilities.

Then a long journey 550km+ to an Aire near Omaha beach. Basic but well worth the €8 charge and excellent MH facilities.

Finally 3 nights in Le Cormoran Campsite about 40km from Cherbourg. Excellent site with all the facilities but woeful Wifi!

Just one finally journey back to Virginia. Well pleased with all we did and all we took on. Would recommend Europe to anyone.

In chatting to a fellow Irish MH'er we both wished that Irish Campsites and aires matched what we both experienced abroad.

Thanks for all the interaction.

Craig
