Another town to boycott.

"In September 2011 Roscommon County Council passed a bye-law effectively prohibiting the parking of motorhomes/campervans in any "place, (not being part of a public road), for the parking of mechanically propelled vehicles" between 8.00pm and 8.00am"

That leaves it open to still park on the public roads though, taxed insured Motorhome can park anywhere that any other vehicle can park.

Maybe a dozen or so of us should all park 'line astern' along the kerb outside the council offices for a weekend.

A heated debate but no-one has given a good reason to want to stay overnight in Co. Rosscommon

Decisions like that are made by counsellors due to an inability to look at a problem or issue from angles other than that which is straight in front of them. Some of Mayor Quimby's speeches to the good folk in Springfield come to mind.

I think facts, figures and even examples from some of the more progressive UK councillors (and there are a few) might be more effective. Never-mind a couple of the recent reports that have been posted here.

Have to say I would feel that either a driving or parking protest would alienate the good citizens of Roscommon and the Councillors might even be get re-elected on the back of such a protest.

I agree, I have been working in toward Aires since 1999, the community has to want you there or it is pointless, I for one would feel uneasy parking where I did not feel welcome, the answer I feel, is for Motorhome users to support villages and towns where we are welcome and are wanted, and by doing so encourage others to consider an Aires and the benefit it can bring to their community, this does work, and since the first Aires outside of mainland Europe was opened in Broughshane in 2003 many other Councils are considering installing an Aire, there are many reasons why it can be difficult, the location is very important and many Councils do not have a suitable site and usually it is the biggest stumbling block, there is a grant to cover most of the cost of installing an Aires now and that has helped, but the biggest single problem is the Motorhome users themselves, it does nothing for our image when some clever clogs inserts a token for electric and then fits a splitter for his mates,it is almost impossible to convince a Council to spent ratepayers money on a facility when from their viewpoint, if someone will not spend £5 to park will spend nothing at all it the local area. In meetings I have have been to the nominal £5 charge is very important for many reasons, mainly that the Motorhome user will get out of the Camper and interact with the community when they go to pay for parking up, the community will put a face to the Camper and it makes the whole thing work, none of us would like a stranger stopping in our back yard without as much as a hello and taking off in the morning, and that I am afraid is how they see us, unless we interact and meet the local people that will always be the case.

Agree with every sentence of Willie's. Will certainly support Buncrana's Aire when it's up and running.

That's just the same as every where else in the republic councils have no foresight, unfortunatley what I hear from our local councillors is that the resistance to change the mindset is mostly traveller related issues.

No offence to those of you residing in the republic, but is was cheaper for us to come to France this Easter and will probably remain so in the future, when will those powers that be, learn, everything is too damn expensive, it's unfortunate that the only time our Motorhome willbe in the south is on the way or returning to Rosslare
