Recent posts regarding stolen campervans have got me thinking, especially regarding older campers (pre 2002ish) which are ridiculously easy to steal unless fitted with additional measures. We become very attached to our vans as they are like no other vehicle.
If anybody has any tips to make it harder for the feckers to get their hands on our vans then maybe we can share them. I’m by no means an expert so please feel free to improve on my suggestions if possible. They’re all pretty cheap but you may need a little help from a welder.

- Steering lock which covers centre nut- a determined thief could bring a spare steering wheel and change in seconds if the centre nut is available.... http://www.halfords.ie/camping…wheel-lock
- Swivel seat locked in reverse- If your drivers seat swivels then see can it be padlocked facing the living compartment
- Wheels turned in towards path so can’t be pushed/pulled on slide body or spec lift- not unheard of for vehicles to be towed away to be started elsewhere
- Alarm with internal siren- External sirens annoy your neighbours but a good hidden internal siren will make life difficult for the thief. Make sure the control box/fuse/siren are away from the ignition area as this is the first panel to be pulled off. http://www.deiproducts.com/ser…ini/Detail http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CAR-…4d208c0625
- Bonnet lock- Preventing access to the engine bay will be a huge hindrance, especially combined with other measures... http://www.amazon.com/Mr-Gaske…B000BWCFK0

Dummy flashing led- If you don’t have an alarm at the very least pretend you have one... http://www.amazon.co.uk/E-Tech…=dummy+led
- Kill switch to pump etc- Fit a well hidden switch and fuse into the circuit even if you have an alarm with an immobiliser... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Auto…3cdbe9cffa
- T junction somewhere on fuel line with hidden valve- Leave the valve open and it won’t go far with the air it will be sucking in.... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Meta…3cdabac7b8
-
Pedal lock- These are vehicle specific I think, box which covers some or all of the pedals making driving impossible... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford…3391316c18

Locked in gear from handbrake- The standard gear to handbrake lock may fit but make sure that the gearstick isn’t short enough to unscrew the knob and pull the lock off.... http://www.amazon.co.uk/DUTY-H…stick+lock
