Dogs with Stena

I used Stena ( Celtic ) for the first time this year home from Cherbourg and would like to warn anybody thinking of leaving their dog in the van ,they only allow 2 visits to the dog one at 7pm and the other at 7am (a nice time to get up at on your holiday ) for walks etc , if you get a kennel there is unlimited access but only 8 kennels ,Irish Ferries had over 30 and plenty of access to the deck with the kennels. On the up side the singing act in the bar were excellent and are booked all season

Four kennels on the floor, four above them. Dodgy if you are late and your Lab weighs 38 kg.

We used Celtic last year without a problem. we have a fat Cocker spaniel.
The only problem I had was to bang my head on the overhead beam (twice) so be careful if using the inner cages. The other reason for using Celtic link was the dog traveled free and Irish ferries were looking over 100 euros, this may change next year with the takeover

Hi,

First time travelling from the North with our dog to Cherbourg 5/5/2015 with Stena, Pet Passport sorted, kennel booked both ways.

Is any other paperwork required e.g. Fitness to Travel ?

What is the check-in procedure at the harbour with the dog.

Any advice appreciated.

Make sure everything is up to date on he pet passport, and more importantly nothing due to expire. You probably won't be checked on the way out but will be on the way back.

On way home make sure you get dog passport stamped between 120/24 hours before departure and check the dog in at ferry terminal building before van check in

As another poster said earlier - you must get the passport stamped by a vet before travelling home. Make sure they stamp the date and time of the treatment - the ferry people will check it carefully - at least that's my experience. I have attended lots of vets near the French ferry ports when the time constraints were between 24/48 hours. Now that the times are much more favourable I have attended vets in Toulouse, Biarritz and even Sabinillas in Southern Spain. If you want any details just send me a message and I'll find the names and addresses for you.
