Just back from Howth Pier. It was our first time their but will definitely be back. A fantastic spot to stay and credit to the Harbour Master or whoever is behind the decision to let us stay. I spoke to some fellow Motorhomers and was told that the only thing they like us to adhere to is that we park within the lines off the bays. Within three hours off us arriving in comes a motorhome and he parks across virtually three bays with no attempt to park properly within the bay. These are the type off idiots who give the vast majority of Motorhomers a bad name and will probably loose us the privilege to park in this fantastic spot. In hindsight I should have taken a photo of the culprit and put it up on this site.

GMAC, had I been there I would have knocked on his door and told him to park within the bay properly. As you say these fools ruin it for the rest of us. I am shy in coming forward when fools try to ruin it for the rest of us. Howth is a great place and we must obey the rules.

I think that person should be named and shamed. So selfish and inconsiderate of others. is it any wonder non motor homers give out about this kinda thing? What'd does he think the lines are painted for? If he wa meant to park that way, then the lines would be in that direction. It makes my blood boil and is downright selfish. Rant over!

Jack, I heard on a local Radio station that an 18 year old parked his car on two Disabled bays and got 5 months off the Road when the case went to court. It might sound harsh but it might be what is needed ,If there was more sentences like that people would think twice when parking.

He has every right to tell folk to park properly. Then if folk had any consideration or manners they would park within the lines that are there. It really angers me when I see a vehicle parked in a way that it shouldn't or parked where it shouldn't. Can I say it? Well I will I just want to put a brick through their windscreen and laugh. I'm awful but that how I feel if I'm being honest.

Mad max I know but it really greets to me. I reported one. Guy that parked in a disabled space who had no badge. When I asked him if he had one he told me to f--k off. Whe he left I took a photo on my phone and sent it off to the Dept. Of course I'll never know if snorting was dine about it.

True, John!
Parking on a disable parking space is definitely a no no in my book but some drivers aren't able to park between the lines, I witnessed a Motorhome driver trying to park his van lately and he wasn't able.

If he cant park he shouldn't be on the road in a MH.We were on the peir in Howth at the weekend also.It is not our place to admonish anybody but if the idots woke up in the morning with a clamp on it would soon put an end to the problem. Is it any wonder they are thinking of introducing pay parking on the pier? :(

Well said Naresh, it is not your place to admonish anyone unless it causes an obstruction to you or a possible safety issue. I have stayed at Howth several times but never witnessed a van taking up 3 places, would make me think was he reserving for friends, who knows very inconsiderate anyway.

Just arrived in carlingford after 3 great days in howth went into Dublin on the dart last night there were 9 m/h on the pier we were talking to another m/ h owner and he was telling us that some halfwit pulled into the four seasons hotel in carlingford parked in the car park pulled out his BBQ and sat and drank all nite,He was told to leave by the manager and that m/h we're not welcome anymore, we've just had a coffee in the hotel and asked the bar staff was it good to park down the back and was told yes, so we're going to ask the girl at the desk as we leave so will keep you posted

I have read somewhere that a glass of water works wonders in that scenario O-)

Not saying a glass of water is the way to go, I think asking him was the right thing to do,

Probably Ken, But I heard of a person that did that and the following day he had a big scrape of a key or something like that down the side of his Motorhome. I think a lot depends on how you approach people.

When I asked the bloke I was very polite and asked if he just turn it off if he had his batts charged as earlier that day we had a good chat and we give him one of those maps of howth and told him the best place to eat so there was really on probs with him turning it of but still I would never think of starting a gennie anywhere near other m/ homes

I don't think theres a problem using ones jenny during the day to charge batteries up. Ive seen some folk using them at night to power an electric TV. I would never use mine after 8.30 p.m. anywhere.

Hi gmac we were a bit worried ourselves but as I said we did ask at the desk , I don't know where the bloke got his info from but it just seemed to have been a rumour, we would hate to have lost that spot as the enemy and myself are down most weekends, we have never seen or heard any misbehaving and hope that we never do so fingers crossed it stays that way
