Looks like the tyres on the van will need replacing soon. The van was registered in 2010..........but I'm pretty sure was manufactured in 2008, so it's definitely ready for a new pair.....definitely at the front as they are well down on the thread. Might get away with the back set till I get over the price for the front :'( .
And here's the question........have tried looking up prices for tyres .......but can't get camper tyres priced, can anyone advise as to price and location for a set of 215/70/15 Michelin , or, something as good. Any recommendations appreciated.

Have been told that camper tyres have a stronger sidewall, something to do with a difference in the weight of a camper being more constant than a working van :( . Am happy with the performance of the michelins fitted and just reckon if it ain't broke ....don't fix it.like any of us trying to keep a wagon on the road I'd love to save a few bob........but herself drives the wagon to dive meets in remote areas and I'd like to have the best on it.

I'm no expert but I am led to believe as long as the Van is used regularly the stronger sidewalk makes no difference.

In saying that I don't think I could of put Van tyres on my last MH as I think they only go up to 69PSI and it was recommended at 79PSI.

Hankook here. Interesting point, Michelin apparently only recommend 80psi for the rears. I contacted Hankook with my maximum axle weights and got 52 front, 54 rear. Camper is light, max 3200kg and rides well.
Hankook max is 65 psi.

And that's another thing...........pressures, was creased for months as regards what pressure to put in. My old 522 Hymer had 75 psi all round,I thought I was driving on tyres made of cement. Lowered to 55 all round and couldn't believe the difference. Present van has 65psi all round and seems to be ok at that. As I said I'd like to save a few bob where and when I can .........bit I reckon tyres should be a priority. 🇧🇭 .

Some of the light commercial tyres can be noisy on the road you won't go far wrong with hancook and anything around 55psi is loads anymore and you are only shaking your van to bits

I personally try to stick with camper tyres.

I have been told similar info about sidewall strength etc.
I have even been told in the event of an accident an assessor my invalidate your insurance if non camper tyres are fitted.

No idea who told me but I was defiantly told by someone.

I doubt that very much, MH dealers sometimes fit VAN tyres to lighter MH's, if that were the case they could be sued if the insurance was invalidated.

I changed the tyres on my mh which were michelins and after a long conversation from the guys at my local Modern Tyre depot they informed me that there is no difference in the construction of the van and camper tyres, there may be a slight difference in the compound of the rubber but the main body of the tyres are made the same way. The thing to remember is that the both are usually 8 or 10 ply construction in the walls and that the number of ply depends on the tyre size. The other main point is to ensure you replace with the same load rating as this determines the amount of air pressure you can put in the tyres.

I raced the michelins with a kuhmo van tyre which had the same load and ply spec as the michelins coming off, they have a lower noise rating and braking rating and a slightly higher economy rating than the michelins ( new ones are d rated against a c rating on the old ones)

What I have noticed so far is a more comfortable ride with less road noise and slightly better corner handling, there is no change to the economy as I am still getting around 31 mpg.

The difference in price was £80 per corner compared to £150 for the michelins

The other thing about camper tyres is availability, stocks are not held by most tyre dealers they order them in and I would have been able to get michelins but not continental vanco campers as continental didn't have any left.

Got a nice reply from a lady in Michelin and will. Try and put it on here when the expert gets home :-| . It's 160e each to put same tyre back on van. Four days for delivery . Will probably go for them even allowing for the advice given here regards van tyres.
There was mention of tyre pressure of up to 80psi re rear tyre pressure. Will try to put up her reply. :o .

It's important to check the year of Manafacture of tyres, no point in fitting tyres that were sitting in the back of a shed for two years when they have a shelf life.

Just in the process of changing 2 of mine. Rang Maynooth MH where I bought my MH and he reassured me the commercial van tyres are fine. Paid €85 per tyre fitted in a local tyre place here in Cavan.

That seems to be the norm........but..........did someone say that commercial tyres can't be inflated to the pressures needed for campers,my van is rated at 3850 kg and according to the Michelin man( lady in this case) my back tyres need to be inflated to 80psi and the front to 65psi or whatever seems right for driving comfortably. :-| .
Ya know, this subject is something that I reckon could go on and on and on :'( . I suppose it's a case of 'orses for courses.

It's down to the load rating as to what they can be inflated to. I always found the original Michelin tyres to give a firm and at times harsh ride, it's why I considered the continental vanco camper tyres, to try something different.

I changed mine last year. I agonised over this decision for a while but finally went for:
4 Camper tyres (Michelin Agilis Camping)
1 Van tyre for the spare.

The Michelin's cost be about double what a good commercial van tyre would have :( but I guess I am happy that I followed the recommendations and as Mark pointed out the if I ever did have an accident the insurance company will not have a excuse to invalidate my cover.

Drifter I agree but I need a new tyre and two tyre suppliers have tried to persuade me not to buy Michelin . All the tyres on my van are Michelin Camping so I walked away and still trying to get a tyre supplier to supply me with one. The 2 excuses were they are not available. I don't want to give the Insurance Company God forbid that I've an accident. They look at everything now.

Knowing insurance companies. I would disagree with the comments above, if they can find a deviation from the specification for your vehicle and can "prove it is a contributory factor" in an claim YOU AINT COVERED.

Once the load rating meets the requirement and the tyre is legal (no slits adequate thread etc) there is no problem, that came from my local tyre depot manager who is in the game a long time,

reading the wording of insurance cert and policy document - i feel as some above that a van tyre would be fine if it is the same rating / size as specified in van documentation - cheers

I think if you wern`t covered on van tyres most of the MHs in the UK would be in trouble when trying to claim.

Folks I contacted my Insurers on Friday as I am needing at least one if not 2 tyres not because they are worn but because the walls are cracking on them. I was told bluntly that the van must be fitted with the same tyres as came on it. Apparently in the documentation that came with the van it will star they type of tyres that were fitted to it. You cannot have 2 different makes of tyres on the van.

Jack, If I was working for an Insurance company and you phoned and asked me the same question, I would cover my Ass and give you the same answer. There is no one going to advise you the opposite and might get into trouble later.
