We are a group operating in England, Scotland and Wales.
Our aims are to try to obtain continental style Aires in the rest of the UK following the example of Ireland.
When we set up our group we wanted to use the name The Motorhome Association but did not as The Motorhome Association was active in Ireland at that time and was, we thought, going well and did not wish to cause any confusion.
This week we found that the web name was available, so we have now obtained it and the old link now comes to The Motor Caravan Organisation. http://www.tmcto.org.
I am not up on the politics that appear to have been going on, but the website closure was a loss to all who campaign to better the understanding of motorhomes/motor caravans with non users and the authorities.
We are actively campaigning against restrictions on overnight motorhome use in Scarborough. We have contacted every UK local authority and have constructed a map showing where motorhomes can and cannot park day or night. Other major problem areas are the Lincolnshire Coast, Isle of Sheppey in Kent and Cornwall.
There is one toilet dump point at the Motorway services on the M2 near the Channel Tunnel and one on the M25 at Cobham Motorway services. However neither have drinking water available. There are a few authorities that now allow overnight sleeping but none that provide Aire type facilities. There are some overnight stops with some services available that can be found using the map search facility.
