Hi folks,

Just signed up, as I'm in the market for my first campervan.

Will be strictly at the entry-level of the marketplace I'm afraid, but I'm hoping to get something around early to mid 90's, for a budget of around 10k.
I've read a bit about the pitfalls and what to look out for, and I'm hoping to avoid buying a rotten / damp van or something that will turn into a moneypit to keep it on the road.

What one piece of advice do you wish someone had given you before you got your first camper?

Welcome Ciaran,

1. I wish I had gotten one years ago.
2. Shop around and look at as many as possible as no one van will give you everything you want unless you have big bucks. The layout has to suit your needs!

Cheers :)

Can't sleep in a Harley though - if I ever win the Lotto, I'll have a big-ass RV with a garage that opens to reveal 2 Harleys!

Welcome Ciaran, a layout that you can live with, within your means is probably the most essential. Reliability next, accessories next and finally fuel economy last, as motorhomes notoriously don't do massive miles and whilst it may be uneconomic to drive a guzzler, it will be much cheaper to buy and initially most folks do the home circuit first and the expense on fuel is out balanced by the more suitable layout.

Thanks Shivster.. have looked at a few so far, and I'm not realy bothered about layout as long as it has 2 beds, and the usual mod cons.

The best one, I've seen so far, and the one I'm seriously considering, has got what appears to be a small area in the shower where water got in at one corner (presumably from the shower itself rather than from outside) - the rest of the shower room feels solid all around and seems to be confined to that one place - not sure if I should run a mile or if it could be easily repaired - anyone got any thoughts?

The rest of the van seems dry and mechanically in very good order, with money spent recently on mechanical parts, 12 months test, new tyres, very little apparent rust and no apparent external leaks, so I'm intersted, but slightly apprehensive about what I've found in the shower area - can anyone offer advice based on experience?

Ok guys, not sure if I should start a new thread, and if so, in which sub-forum, but here's the info I'm after tonight, if anyone can help.

I was looking at a camper today, its an Iveco, Laika Ecovip 6, with twin wheels at the back.

I haven't been able to find information as to whether I'd be able to drive this van on a B Licence, or if I'd need a C Licence.
The chap selling the camper isn't sure, as it was his father's.

I also haven't seen the logbook yet, and maybe this would answer my question?

I took this information from a plate in the engine bay, but there are no labels beside the weights printed - maybe someone here could decode it for me?

3500kg
6300kg
1 - 1800kg
2 - 2500kg
Type 55/12/18
Wheelbase 3600
Certified Absorbtion Value 2.20

Can anyone shed any light on what all thal means please?
Thanks in advance for any help

If it is over three and a half tonne then no you need a C license.
As for this model wait someone will be along shortly to answer your question.

A damp meter might not be any harm to have with you re your shower question then you will be able to check and see if the motorhome suffers from damp.

I hope that helps.

3500kg
6300kg
1 - 1800kg
2 - 2500kg

Someone correct this please if it is wrong but I think it is correct!

Top to bottom: -

Max Gross Vehicle Weight

Max Gross Train Weight (with trailer)

Max Front Axle load

Max Rear Axle Load
The axle loads add up to more than the GVW to allow for uneven loading

Thanks Ally,

Can I take it that that means I'd be ok on a B licence?

I think so, but I will let someone familiar with the South categories of licence confirm.
